How to Re-comply?

Postby DriftSpecStarlet » Thu Apr 02, 2009 11:08 pm

Where do you re-comply a Car on the East Coast? im in gisborne
What does it cost?
What do they actually check is it a Wof check or what?
Is it the best option or is doing a Tags and Plate job cheaper and easier?

geez, Leon that would be thinking!!
i find the local VTNZ real good and always get them to come and do a quick visual before sending it in for comliance. enables them to point out anything that could be time consuming to get parts/repair.

it is just a firm WOF check, but if there is rust or accident damage....... be prepared to pay.
I've been a bad bad boy. I should read the rules and behave before I get spanked by an admin

cheaper, yes. easier, no. too many risks that could come back and bite you in the ass.

first of all, what year is the car? older than 93 is just a visual inspection, a really strict WOF. newer than 93, they strip the car down, inspect brake pads, interior etc etc. if there haven't been any rust or structural repairs/modifications you should be fine, otherwise you're up for a repair cert which can be between $150 - $350 i think. any modifications made which are covered by a LVV cert don't need a repair cert.

ive just had it done this week, only failed on needing a repair cert for two patches of rust. cost varies with people. its about $250 - $400 for the check, which gives you a WOF i think, then you take all the paperwork to vtnz or aa and they give you your plates + rego (and take some money ofcourse)

Its a 1989 st185
There doesnt seem to be anyone here in gisborne that does it :(
Apparently theres on in napier?
What do you mean by visual inspection? Just a standard WOF check?
Will it need to be right up to speed eg. Plumbed back gate, Indicators, Not smoking?

its basically an extremely stringent wof. no rust, everything legit, brake pads good, no cracks in tailights etc etc etc. they pull apart your interior and everything

you'll be sweet then, its just a visual inspection as in they don't actually strip the car to bits. they might pull the wheels off to check brake pads, but thats about all. they don't pull the interior out or anything.

there should be a vtnz in gisborne? i'd imagine every vtnz branch would do it, some private companys do re-vins too and aren't normally as strict as vtnz. and yes, it needs to be up to speed + more - i fitted brand new brake lines right throughout the car just for peace of mind (old ones were cracking anyway). some inspectors will even check the brake fluid itself, so might pay to replace it just so it doesn't look 5 years old

VTNZ should be able to do it, although you may have to go through the truck side. The AA might be able to do it as well, although I'm not sure how much of them are left here.

You're not looking for a certifier, just a TSD agent
