Hilux calipers

Postby cat007 » Sat Apr 04, 2009 9:28 pm

I've searched but for the life of me cant find anything!

I remember reading a while ago about hilux/surf calipers

What disk size could or should I use for my *A70 Supra?

Cheers!

hmm this might be a good one for a search on toymods ..

i know yu can modfy Ford Au brakes ( thnk massive brembo's on the later tickford/te50's) to a cressida of the same age as your supra , maybe you can do the same for the yours, and earlier ma61's - OR use nissan R33 Brembo's as well

same stud pattern , though you would need to use different caliper adaptors, but it has been done - im just ot sure of the technical aspect but i kno at least 5 cars done this way on Toymods in Australia

thanks for that. I've asked on toymods.

I guess what keeps putting me off changing calipers/disk/pads is that my disks are pretty new already and my pads are very new Mintex 1166's - so don't want to waste them lol

Again, thanks for the advice

im using hilux calipers, supposedly with ford falcon rotors. definitely hilux calipers, but im only going on what the previous owner has said regarding the rotors. they're 11.25" vented anyway, should be some pics in the projects section.

i have hilux calipers on my crown running dba 2 piece rotors 295x25 i think off the top of my head.

The space between the bolts is 90mm and the original disc i thnk is 20mm i fitted spacers to mine.

There is also 2 different types of the calipers. 1 has smaller pistons and runs a thinner disc. (which is the ones i got)

the other i think has 2mm bigger pistons and 25mm disc from factory, this is from memory tho and when i was looking for mine i couldnt find any of the 25mm ones at all.

They also need quite a bit of "offset" on your disc for it to work. as the front half of the caliper is huge like 40mm or so so the hat on your disc needs to be quite decent.
how were cars built without the internet in the 90s?

are the pistons same size, or two bigger and two smaller on each caliper?

Don't suppose you'd be able to pass on the details of this mysterious person? I'm very keen to find out details....

from what I've gathered off the net, LN61 / LN65 have staggered pistons (far left).
Late LN106 and LN130 have same size pistons (far right).
Not sure what the ones in the middle are off.

Pretty sure LN61/LN65 take skinnier disks too (possibly solid???). I originally had LN130 calipers and changed to LN65, ended up having to mod the centre part of the caliper to widen where the disk runs. Hope this makes sense. Might help in identifying the caliper from just looking at it - they take different pads too, so it helps to know what model you've got
