Making/fitting fuel tank

Postby cat007 » Fri Apr 03, 2009 8:08 am

Hey all

I'm thinking of building/making an aluminium fuel tank to sit in the same location as the stock one, but I want it to not be so tall as the OEM one pokes down too low

Would I need a cert for this?

You may be in luck.

"LVV certification is not required provided that:
• no structural modifications have occurred to the vehicle during the installation or modification, and
• the fuel type has not changed."

Page 9: http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/certifiers/virm ... -13-v3.pdf

But thats just the rules anyway.

I looked into this, you will only loose tank volume by doing this, unless you modify the floor (in a corolla anyhow)..

I have no problem with loosing volume! I'd be happy to go from 70 to 40 litres, if it meant I can make a decent under tray :)
