So you can use your factory seat belt with a bucket seat as just looking at them does the belt that goes across your stomach actually still hold you in as some fixed buckets have quite high sides?

You can use harnesses on the road, but only if you have them on your authority card. Give me my six point over a standard seatbelt anyday (though not so user friendly around town).

The main problem you get when putting buckets in is that the seat belt stalk often mounts to the oem seat so when you change the seat you need to remount the seatbelt stalk and that generally needs a cert.

I have a fixed back Bride in my daily driver, so only have the standard belt. Its a bit awkward to buckle up, but not really a big deal. My stalk is mounted to the rail (genuine Bride ST185 rail) so i guess it would need certing.

My seatbelt hangs over the shoulder sticky out bit, so is always right there. Really handy, unlike the standard seat!!

Sweet cheers for the info. When you put a fixed bucket in a 2 door hatch will it have to be certed as a 2 seater or something?

If you replace both front seats with fixed back buckets. But not if you keep the passenger as a recliner. Also if your bucket seat has really high sides you could fail a WOF should your seatbelt not sit against you properly.

And you may strike issues with having 2 fixed seats and NOT removing the rear seats. Depends on how finicky the warranter is i guess. Just put a reclinable in the passenger side

You getting the car certed? basically, if you plan to run 2 fixed seats, youll probably need to remove the back seats. Your word that you wont take passengers in there wont mean much to them

We came across this very topic in the the wof update course we went on in Feb, quite positive you can't issue a wof to a vehicle that is a bucket/race style seat on OE rails, as the belt will not properly operate. Which means it doesn't sit over your waist area when fastened

Which makes sense. Unless the seat has a sufficient recess by your waist that enables the belt to sit correctly

would kind of defeat the purpose of a fixed back seat to chop all that support out of it though!

Its more in the corners where your buckle is and where the belt goes to the bottom of the b pillar. It wouldn't need to be super low, just enough not to interfere (would also depend on the size of the person )
