Too be honest my verdict is the same with the chinese gsd3 as i could tell the difference in the compound by just looking at them when they first came out , and we also had problems with the first few batches having runout issues i believe next i will be trying the re-001 or the continental sport contact 3 , out of price range for most though

Here is the update, got tyres fitted, RE001 feel a lot more stable than GSD3, awesome feed back and they track a lot better, couldn't test it properly but grip is very good (similar or even better than GSD3). Wet performance is great. Definitely better than my 3mm threaded GSD3s.
My old GSD3s found new life on my ST165 though (as I said earlier I had about 3mm on them left). I am quiet stocked that with 35mm offset and 7" wide rim I can fit (just) 225/50/16 on ST165.

Any updates on the RE001s there sergei? How you finding them after they've bed in etc, especially in the wet?
I will need new tyres before my next wof. Its between these & Dunlop Sport Maxx for me. I can get them for about the same price through work. I was swaying towards the Dunlops but I had to get a set of 245/40R18 RE001 in the other day for a customers Falcon & man they looked the business.

t1r is my pick over the 2 above mentioned tyres, im now running r888s for traction tho

Tyre wear all depends on the car setup and your driving style. I am running RE001 235 front and 265 on the rear on my Celsior. They handle a lot better than the tyres I had on it before which I think were Good Years or Dunlop (not too sure), but they were worn so the comparison isn't really fair. Honestly I dont think there is hardly any difference between the top brands, if there is it will be very small and can only be verified on a track with a lap time. Most of them made using the same type of rubber and similar tread patterns. Unless you are planning on running semi slicks, I dont think you will notice the difference. But I am sure if you buy some cheap Chinese crap it will not last long and handle like crap. My 2 Cents.

OK, that does it, my worn pairs of T1-S and T1-Rs are going to be replaced with a new set of T1-Rs.

Now who has 205/50R15 T1-Rs for a reasonable price...

thats cos there are just about as many 17" wheels on the road as 15's now, remember hyper will charge you on top of that price to fit and balance.

I got my 205/50 R15 T1-Rs for $160ea from Tyrepower in Hamilton, that included fitting and balancing too. This was about 12 months ago however, so prices may have increased since then.

yeah I don't imagine he was making a heck of alot on the deal but I had previously purchased two other whole sets of Toyo tyres off him before so that might have had something to do with it.

Hmmm, I haven't used Toyo tyres for a while now. Been through a few sets of GSD3s now and have had no complaints, but I haven't had a set of Chinese ones as yet.

I might look at getting some T1Rs next time around if Toyo prices are that good.

Toyo TR1 are great, good price as well if you compare them to what Falken want for the FK452.

Another underated tyre is the Durun S1, I know Chinese brand blah blah blah. But my partner runs these on her legacy B4 and to be honest they perform well with no issues.

I think the RE001 is a better tyre than Australian GSD3.
It is very stable on higher speed, also a lot more feed back on cornering.
What I noticed is that on wet it is very similar to GSD3.
RE001 got stiffer side wall another good point. They feel alot more precise.
But over all I think asymmetrical is the way to go.
I had toyos before (T1S) on AE101, didn't think they were too special, especially after side wall cracked all the way around from NZ roads.

In my limited experience, r888's are alright on the road but you'd never want to take them to the track.

why not?? they're an actual track tyre!

I run RA1s on my track rims and found them fantastic, they did wear a bit quicker than the Advan A048's they replaced however.

Ive got German GSD3's in 195/50/15 on one civic and RE001's in 205/50/15 on the other..

Both VERY good tyres, but overall I prefer the RE001 by a whisker

I'll tell you one thing: it is a lot harder to make RE001 squeal (on 4wd at least) and they squeal in a lot deeper tone
