18 RG twin sidedraught stuff

Postby rxtoy » Sun Apr 05, 2009 9:09 pm

right, got sump sorted, engine and twin sidedraught solex's mounted, trying to work out what i need to do for fuel and water.

so:

1. am i better off running an engine driven fuel pump???? i've got one off my 22R and the mounting hole looks the same, its just covered up on the 18RG. or will i have to buy an electric pump and mount that and a fuel pressure regulator somewhere (if so what pressure???)

2. do i need to run the water cooling setup on the carbs or is it pretty pointless???

3. anybody got pictures or a diagram of where all the water lines go for the heater and all that other shit?????? cause the hilux is a bit different.

4. my carbs are setup for the fuel line to come in the front, any idea why the hell they would want to do that???? would be heaps shorter to run it behind the block and into the first carb.

i'm sure i'll come up with a few more but that will do for now.

cheers
Matt

1 there will be a short shaft behind the blanking plate to drive dizzy and oil pump, this should also extend back to run mechanical fuel pump.

1. am i better off running an engine driven fuel pump??

Depends on the 18R-G you have - if it was an EFI one then it wont have the ability to use a mechanical fuel pump as the dummy shaft in the block doesnt have the lobe to drive the pump. Strongly recommend a electric one anyway

2. do i need to run the water cooling setup on the carbs or is it pretty pointless?

Most aftermarket manifolds exclude this so i guess its pointless

3. anybody got pictures or a diagram of where all the water lines go for the heater and all that other sh*t?

Heater inlet - from rear left side of block
Heater outlet - connects to the tube running across the front of the engine from the thermostat housing

4. my carbs are setup for the fuel line to come in the front, any idea why the hell they would want to do that?

Original setup had the mechanical fuel pump just under the front carb and the pipe off it running up to it. hence the fitting facing forward. swap the dual and single fittings over and u can run it the other way.(depending on the type of fitting)
