Diff Help

Postby varix » Tue Apr 07, 2009 9:32 pm

Im looking to get an LSD into my 88 GX71 Mark II. Im pretty sure it currently is an F Series Diff. Is it possible to fit an F Series altezza lsd diff head strait into this housing? If not what are my options?
Just lsd diffs from same era supras, mark 2s and cressidas?

I've been told that if its the same series it will fit. assuming it physically fits in the housing.

Right so I have a GX71 MarkII with a F282 IRS differential. I have just today sourced a F253 nonIRS LSD differential.
What I want to know is will the new F253 bolt strait into my F282 IRS housing? Obviously one being IRS and one not?
Also from what I can tell my current diff has a 4.3 ratio and the new diff has a 4.556 ratio? What difference will this make to drivability?

You can just swap the original crown gear over onto the LSD head to keep the ratio the same. I'm fairly sure the G series heads are interchangeable between IRS and non IRS, so it's probably safe to assume the same goes for F series.

yeah you just put your original crown wheel onto the lsd carrier, along with the side bearings front your original, set it back up in your original head casing/housing and you'r away laughing. if you dont know what your doing with preload etc i'd suggest you consault someone that does

Awesome thanks heaps guys. I think Its fair to say I can go ahead and buy it and it shouldnt be to hard to find someone who knows what they are doing to swap the parts between the two diffs.
