Crap that's a good deal! I'd do that if I could get the same deal?

How much would the cage weigh?

I actually used to work with this guy, when I worked at herbert fabrication for a few months for engineering experience.
IMO he is the best welder and fabricator I have seen! + he gives me the mean deals :). Although I can source my own steel as I used to work for steel and tube and know a manager there :).
Not sure how much it would weight but the material is like 2.X kg a meter.

Oh so the $500-$800 isn't including the metal?

$500 isnt including material.
Normal price on material is around $200 for 10m.

Most cage builders down in Wellington uses that excuse to try and charge $2500 for a basic full cage, Talking to a friend that deals directly with steel & tube, he said the price has dropped quite a bit recently since the recession started.

I will probably go to Palmy north where I hear a reputable cage builder doesnt charge an arm and a leg to build a cage!

It's pretty sad considering my full cage with single intrusions was $850 fitted about five years ago

a reputable cage kit supplier hasn't moved much in price since bending my full cage 7 years ago, approx. 15% increase

A guy I know won't do full cages for under $3500.

He does good work and the cages are perfectly symmetrical. But that's a lot of money.

Under $3500? HAHA - must be gold plated?

and there is a LOT of time difference between fitting a cage to a car that arrives already stripped and stripping a car out, fitting the cage then putting the interior back into it.

So for those who don't have old workmates and trade accounts with tubing suppliers...

Who in Auckland is good to go to for a standard 6 point cage with harness bar? (I'm assuming this is satisfactory for most track work/club events/hill climbs/tarmac events etc?)

Does anyone have any quotes/defininite up to date prices on what this might cost (2 door coupe)?

As long as it meets schedule A in the motorsport rules then you can basically do any motorsport you like in NZ with a basic full cage, it's up to you if you want extra bars, after all its your life if you have a nasty off
In fact you may even get away with a 1/2 cage.

As far as I'm aware it wont be any cheaper for a 2 door coupe than a 4 door sedan, you will prob still have the same amount of tube, bends and welds

Just to drag it back from the dead, any suggestions for cage builders in Auckland?

Or anywhere in North Island for that matter if the price differential is enough, could work out cheaper driving/shipping the vehicle down.
