Ucol Motorsports ST183's

Postby petrolhead » Tue Apr 28, 2009 10:05 pm

hi guys. Our Ucol class in feilding has just recieved 9 celicas that we will be modifying into mild club/race cars throughout the year. All cars and engines will be rebuilt, with engine mods not yet decided on. What mods do the 3sge engines like, taking into consideration that we are on a budget. Ideas so far are maybe an increase in compression and new cams/ grinds. Any ideas wud be appreciated also places to get good prices on parts etc..

Cheers, Tim

the best mod for a 2nd gen 3sge is constant reliable oil pressure........... then worry about the rest of things

petrolhead, I would suggest that if you are running on limited budget you leave the engines as they are and concentrate on the other components i.e. brakes, suspension, weight etc...
These will deliver far more performance than tinkering with the engine.

Should be harder to spin than the Starlets!!!!!

Just get Ucol to give Brent some cash and go wild, it's not hard to do a light tune on a 3s :P .

Guessing you guys still want to be doing 1:32 or slower at Manfeild to comply with RS cup? And what suspension mods are you doing?

I reckon just a few things like a a good filter, extractors/exhaust, reliable spark (just new leads, plugs etc), reliable oil pressure and good cooling. A gen2 3S should be well fast enough for what you guys are doing.

Saw you guys fettling with one out on the street while I was towing the car to manfeild the other day, was tempted to stop for a chat but had no time!!!

Oh and someone should throw a set of sidedraughts at the starlets, they would be soo sweet with a bit more power, decent tyres and swaybars!

i also have a 183 and i have read on other forums that performance air filter, exhausts and the ignition system is a good start if your staying n/a.

Would be nice to see it when finished
