3SGTE Rod Strength

Postby strx7 » Tue May 05, 2009 5:55 pm

I recall reading reports of a std 3rd or 4th gen 3SGTE rods taking over 600HP (at the flywheel). Anyone got any good evidence of how much GT-T Caldina rods can handle????

Not that much, they are the weakest 3S-GTE rods

Which is probably why you see so many bent ones in standard engines

Dunno if it's any help but there's a guy on the IMOC site that makes ~750rwhp (IIRC) on shot-peened stock Gen2 rods

When i ran a bearing in my first Gen2 i carried on until it failed... the Rod ripped the Pinion shaft out of the Piston and then shot through both sides of the block (Gaping holes on each side) and the only thing i can see with my eye is a bent stud for the Rod caps :) doesnt look bent WHAT soever that earns an A++ in my books

Oh I see, that explains why my number one conrod is now 4mm shorter than the rest after my 20 psi bosst spike, DOH

weakest link with toyota rods are the rod bolts them selves get good rod bolts and they seem to hold together ,but its just as easy to go after market

my engine has ARP rod bolts, mains and headstuds

it would appear that ST215 GTT rods are the same rods used in the 3rd gen VVTi engines.

gen3 rods + arp fasteners - best upgrade imho outside of going aftermarket like Eagles

Ran that combo with acl forgies in my old gt4 - it ran 16 pound daily and was happily laying 170kw at the treads day in day out.

16psi is ONLY a number the boost guage reads. What Turbo were you running? a CT20 or CT26?

Flat topped 2JZGTE pistons with shot peened GT-T rods and ARP Bolts and a 5SFE Crank giving 9.5:1 compression and a 20psi boost spike on a MSE TD05 Hybrid = a conrod attempting to do Yoga as per this pic
