Removing superstrut?

Postby RS13 » Fri May 15, 2009 7:10 pm

I've heard this mentioned a few times now, just wondering wether anyone here had actually done it.. basically, replacing all front superstrut arms with a complete non-superstrut setup from another AE101? How much work is involved, am I going to have to fabricate new arm brackets etc, and am I able to keep the twinpots?

Or is this a fairly stupid idea? I'd expect that handling would suffer, however I'm sure that with decent shocks and springs I'm sure it would perform as well as the superstrut would?

Thanks! :D

ooooh i cant remember!

to use the super strut brakes you do need to make mods though.
a search on the upgrade should pull up the info

Ewan (10k20v) changed his AE101 from superstrut to macpherson...

This is all from memory so check all my facts for yourself, pretty sure it's all correct

Get macpherson subframe lower control arms and struts
They will bolt on.

Make adapter or modify swaybar to bolt onto macpherson struts

Adapt superstrut brakes onto macpherson hubs...
- slot hub bolt holes
- make spacer to centre disk in caliper
- buy AE111 s/s disks (centre hole same size as ae101 hubs)

OR
- mill disk down to fit with caliper bolted onto standard holes
- make spacer to centre disk
- buy AE111 s/s disks

AE101 s/s disks have a larger centre hole than the AE101 macpherson hub
AE111 s/s disks have an identical centre hole as AE101 macpherson hub

OR
Just buy new s/s bits from toyota to replace whatever is worn out!

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
