Dodgy trademe?

Postby FST4RD » Mon May 18, 2009 6:07 pm

I bought these golfballs http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =218399949
Put an autobid of $40, then you can see that another trader has been placing $1 bids up to my autobid limit.
I got an email saying that my autobid had been over taken, then got an email saying that my bid now leads as previous bid removed....
I thought this is a bit suspect since there are no questions saying to remove the bid.

Now previously i bought my mother some golf balls http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =216539531
now you can see that the same trader amctrader has been putting on $1 bids again....

I think that obviously they are bumping the bids up to max and then removing the last bid to make yours the highest.

Do people think i'm right or just a nutter reading way to much into things?

Na, sounds like what's going on. That's the reason why I don't do auto bids. People always just push you up to the max anyway.

You've got it right.. check out whos' bidding on this.. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Building-renov ... 422853.htm

Looks like they know each other, and are bumping each others' auctions. Complain to trademe.

I wouldnt pay for them seeing its pretty obvious. Why pay $40 when really you could have got them for $1

Whatever you do, do it fast as others are being scammed right now. I've warned another user of this thats bidding on their auction. So best to get it done asap aye.

Just check previous sales and they have done it a lot!

EDIT: the user replied regarding my warning of the scammers:
"Many thanks for your kind words of advice. Duly noted."

+1 Karma point for the day.

I just emailed trademe and told them the situation and that I believe they should remove all the bids from amctrader and I should get the product for $1 since there were no legitimate bids....
This is the first rough incident I have had since being a trademe member...

Heh, at least it wasn't something dodgy where you'd be embarrassed to admit to bidding on it

sure looks that way, even a couple of auctions that they have won obviously because nobody has bid again but haven't left feedback - I smell a rat

Im guessing TM can just look at the IP address' of the two people (seller and bidder)- If they are the same then that would suggest dodgyness
