Weighing car

Postby molex » Thu May 21, 2009 3:42 pm

Anybody have any suggestions for somewhere I can weigh the car accurately (e.g better than the dump) Corner weights would be ideal

Keen to do some before and after + interested in f-r balance after I remove a whole heap of weight but I really don't have a whole heap of money to throw around. Located in Central-ish auckland

Any suggestions?

Get friendly with you're local "God Squad" (Heavy traffic police). They carry mobile corner scales in their utes 8)

we have proper corner weights, I've used them on my car before. I've occassionally thought about having a "weigh your car day" at our workshop as a mini fund-raising exercise. Does that sound like something that would interest people for say $20 a pop?

would be interesting to see what people's cars actually accuratly weigh,
if you post up the results.

and corner weights etc too.
Never had a road car or car without adjustable suspension on a 4 pad scale to see what they're like from factory.

Those of us in Wgtn were lucky enough to have Leon bring the Motor Sport NZ Scales along to a meet one night (probably a couple of years ago now)

Many took up the offer (at no charge) to throw the car on there

MyKE came in at 740Kgs with half a tank of gas in it

some of the Wgtn guys n gals might still have their figures floating around still

Some time next week would suit me..

I want a before and after ideally, I'll be wanting to rip into the car the following weekend and have it stripped to a bare shell before I start putting things back in. From 100% standard to bare bones, should be an interesting comparison.

I'll just have to check the max load ratings of our scales. I seem to remember it being pretty high, something like 600kg per scale? I checked before I put mine on but that was ages ago. For what it's worth, here's the 3sgte aw11 on the cornerweights:

I was suprised by how close the weights were

Here's my car at race weight,
so that will be with me in the car with suit and helmet,
passengers seat and a whole heap of lead to get to the 980kg minimun weight.

Pretty close front to rear and side to side.

not too hard.

The car has over 60kg in it of 5kg lead bars, and the passengers seat is 5 KG,
so moving it around helps with most of it,
and it's setting up the adjustable platforms for the rest.

Gotta have the sway bars disconnect too when you set it up.

That's how I set it to get it even for a start but Dad and I have changed it since then for better turning and faster lap times.
