except you will probably have more luck getting engine from a caldina GT or a Celica SSIII than from an MR2 (they seem to be less common)

i would rather do that but the mr2 comes with the lsd, and i forgot to ask, will i need custom mounts for the mr2 box?

I would rather keep the standard s53 box altogether because then i can keep the standard driveshafts and not worry about the 4ws sensor and not worry about linkages and mounts but then it would lose out on the lsd.

Then again, id rather not do the engine swap but i dont know any other way of getting 200bhp, im told the engine internals of a 3SGE will not hold at 200bhp :(

I'd also like to see a beams 3s in a st162, do you think you'd ever get round to doing it?

it is something i really really want to do, im still trying to figure everything out, im still trying to figure out somethings like driveshafts, fuel system, gearbox mounts, finding the E153F gearbox which seems to be harder than it sounds, i would prefer the beams 3s tbh but looks to be to complicated :?

I wont have a problem getting the engine out or in, its stuff like the loom, fuel systems, etc.

Once i get all these things figered out, i'll start planning it out properly 8)

Like i said, should be fun project, will be off the road for a long time

You can keep the S53, but without a rebuild and an LSD it would be useless.

LSD E153s are easier to find then LSD S54. But as it happens Chris aka Phothog has just come across one he might sell.

I might try the swap one day, my first car was a 162 so i have a thing about them...hence my name actually . But knowing me ill never do it

lol, gettin quite rare to find now, would be good to see though 8)

this wont happen yet, like i said, im still doing the research on it

As for the tranny, im going to go with the E153 with the lsd, just got to figure out if will bolt up to the standard s53 mounts, if so, that will be sweet 8)

Also, still trying to figure out the fuel system, what components would i need? Will have to find a wrecking ST185.

I just had a look for an lsd for an S53, looks to be hardly any, there was a used trd one in the US which is apparantly very rare so thats out of the question

LSDs for S53s are actually quite common place in Japan, manufacturers like Cusco still make them.

But at over $2000 a piece its not cheap!!

My advice is get your motor rebuilt with new forged low compression pistons, custom inlet manifold, bigger injectors and a link ECU. 3SGTEs suffer from bad maintenence and its getting harder to find a good one.

Then either rebuild box with LSD ($$$), find a S54 LSD or use E153

(either that or you can buy my RC when its done  )

What motor do you mean, 3sge in my car now or the 3sgte?

Ill go with the E153 box with lsd, would be the safest bet and the easiest.

How much do you think your RC will go for?

Hold up, one of your requiements of the car was to keep TEMS, yet your talking koni shockies???

9/10 times your way will not be more fun as just buing a GT-Four, as you will get to a hard bit or get sick of it and it will be sold as another half done project.

Learning stuff from cars is all good.... but this is seriously some good advice!

If you want to learn stuff about cars, buy something like a KP starlet and work on that.

You will only be pouring money down the drain building something that already exists in another form. You'll just end up spending soooo much and end up with nothing THAT special.

I've done the KP starlet project (just sold it today) and I learned so much about the basics of cars I can jump into another project will a lot of knowledge.

The exact same advice is given to anyone thats got a 4AFE powered Levin/Trueno and thinks its a good idea to convert it to 4AGE spec. Cheaper / easier option is to always buy the car that comes that way factory.

2c more.

Yor motor. Cost wise a GT4 is so much better, $3k would buy you a half decent one.

I hope to get 8-9k for my RC, but we'll see how it sells.

Well, got back from a toyspeed meet today and sat in shihads rwd trueno and loved it so am going to forget this idea.

I had a look for a gt4 in the south island but none in my price range at the moment.

Im going to get something old skool like a escort, ke20 04 kp60 starlet like BZGBling said, something along those lines but must be RWD or 4WD

Thanks for all the help anyway though guys, this thread might come in handy for someone else. 8)

I'd probably go starlet over escort seem to be more parts around for the KPs.

Although not much point taking my advice as gospel as I just sold my KP and kept the escort.... :?

Oh yeah and the KP is easy to get mint rims for, its all about the looks
