What I find interesting, is that even with their billions of dollars, and hundreds of genius guys working on race strategies and the like, they still at times make decions that to a layman such as myself, seem completely stupid... and then dont pay off...

I reckon it's better if FIA would have introduced Turbochargers instead of the silly KERS and perhaps used an air restrictor to prevent teams running 1400hp like they did in qualifying trim with their 1.5L engines they had in the 1980s :D. A turbocharger would improve the the thermodynamic efficiency of the engine and reduce the emissions (think of the Greenies). Bring back a normal stick box, none of those launch controls and sequential boxes that cost like $250,000. Miss a shift? Lose a place. As long as F1 cars are still light and have decent power, they will still be the quickest cars on the planet. A1GP will always be poor mans F1. Indy and CART will be going round and round on their silly ovals in America.

Look at WRC, no cost cutting? and most teams pulled out. Mitsubishi gone, Subaru gone, Suzuki gone. Formula 1 Economy was not sustainable and I don't like the idea of watching only two teams race and everybody else just filling space, racing for one or two points. What will happen to McLaren if they don't become competitive very soon? They will lose sponsors and cash supply will be tight. Once you in the bottom, it's very hard to climb back up. Look at Williams for example.

I hear you on that one I'm a Ferrari fan and for them having alot of dominance to now being minnow's I'm doing it tough at the Moment I personally think they should'nt open this up so anybody who can just come in.I think this is the top of the tree when it comes to motorsport and for them to open it up to anyone with money is just not right in my view.these manufacturers have put heaps of time and money into this built F1 into what it is today.

They have levels of motorsports for all budgets its called A1GP and GP2 let all these privateer type teams go racing there.

Well look at that as soon as I mention how bad Ferrari and my man Raikkonen is going look at that front row of the grid and I must say he was looking racey during qualifying anyway hopefully he can stop this early season Brawn GP dominance.

Oh dear, it looks like F1 as we know it may finally be coming to an ignominious end at the hands of Spanky and the Midget

you know, i thought the teams submitting conditional entries was going to open the door for some common sense and a solution.

in hindsight it was crazy to think that when "spanky" (love that! ) has the final say.

so...... bets on who will win le mans next year? ferrari? mclaren?

One thing I don't understand is why Bernie has let it get this far. F1 is his baby, and he has prevuously stated that they need the big teams in F1, so why cant he sit Max down and give him teh word to pull his head in? Or has he no say over what Max does seeing as he is the FIA? I'm not entirely sure how it all works to be exact, so if someone could fill me in on the dteails that would be good.

I've come to the conclusion that FOTA have got their negotiation strategy all wrong. What they should have done is hire a few Dominatrixes and rent a dingy Soho basement flat so that Max would feel compelled to agree to anything they say. Luca Di Montezemelo and Heathrow Hotels just don't generate the same spirit of cooperation from Max

It's a bit complicated, but basically the Midget, or at least the company he works for is the commercial rights holder for F1, that is they get all the income from the circuits that pay to host a round of F1, television rights and f1 Mechandise royalties. In turn they pay the prize money and a share of the TV money to the teams.

Theoretically they have little or no say in the rules, though I think they may get one vote on the committee.

The key to this whole situation is the lack of a Concorde agreement, which is probably the only good thing that the Spanky and the Midget ever did for F1, and made Bernie a very rich man in the process.

I bet the bosses at CVC are crapping themselves, how will they get there $2 million (i assume US) a week they need to pay for the F1 rights, i mean not many people will pay the money the circuits are asking to go see lower rank teams racing.

seems that FIA should actually be FAIL

Max is now offically the world biggest knob

New team need to accept that if you want to play in f1 its going to cost you

If you want to play in abudget series go race in gp2 or such

don't ruin f1 jsut for the sake of a few new teams who will be average anywayz

Lola want back in, look at there last effort couldnt even quaify in 1997 it was such a heap

Qualifying done. Good to see one Toyota still has the pace and some encouraging signs from Ferrari. McLaren must be having a bad day.

I think my man Kimi Raikkonen is slowing starting to get on top of Felipe Massa as Turkey is a favoured track for Massa over my man but to me its seems as though the Brawn cars still have a distinct advantage over the field as the RBR car of Vettel is quite a bit lighter than the Brawn's...Jesus its going to be tough for the others to get even with these guys it seems there doing a real good job.Ferrari and RBR are trying but it just seems those Brawn cars just have a little extra in reserve.

Somebody needs to put Spanky out of everyones misery and soon
World championship leaders Brawn, plus former champions McLaren and Renault are among the teams that have been told to lift the conditions on their entry to the 2010 championship by June 19 or risk being left off the grid.

After days of intense speculation about which teams would comprise the make up for the 2010 championship, the FIA announced that of the current teams only Ferrari, Red Bull Racing, Scuderia Toro Rosso, Williams and Force India have been granted entries.

It means that Brawn, McLaren, Renault, BMW Sauber and Toyota have all been sidelined for now - pointing towards further frantic efforts to try and find a solution to the row over cost cuts.

In a statement issued by the FIA, it said: "These five teams have submitted conditional entries. The FIA has invited them to lift those conditions following further discussions to be concluded not later than close of business on Friday 19 June."

The inclusion of Ferrari and the two Red Bull teams is also a bone of contention, with the outfits likely to claim that they could only be entered if the conditions attached to their applications to race were met.

The FIA, however, believes the teams committed several years ago when they signed deals with the governing body and Formula One Management tying themselves to the sport.

The list also confirmed that three new teams had been granted an entry - Campos Grand Prix, Manor Grand Prix and Team US F1.

Should any of the five current teams not make the cut, then the FIA is evaluating further entries being added.

AUTOSPORT understands there are three or four other teams who are close to being granted entries, and dialogue is still ongoing.

Campos Grand Prix is being run by former grand prix driver Adrian Campos, with Team US F1 headed by Ken Anderson and Peter Windsor.

AUTOSPORT understands the new Manor Grand Prix team is headed by F3 team boss John Booth and former grand prix team owner Nick Wirth.

Team Constructor
Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro Ferrari
Scuderia Toro Rosso STR TBA
Red Bull Racing Red Bull Racing TTBA
At&T Williams Williams Toyota
Force India F1 Team Force India Mercedes
Campos Grand Prix Campos Cosworth
Manor Grand Prix Manor Cosworth
Team US F1 Team US F1 Cosworth
Vodafone McLaren Mercedes* McLaren Mercedes
BMW Sauber F1 Team* BMW Sauber
Renault F1 Team* Renault
Panasonic Toyota Racing* Toyota
Brawn GP Formula One Team* Brawn TBA

* These five teams have submitted conditional entries. The FIA has invited them to lift those conditions following further discussions to be concluded not later than close of business on Friday 19 June.

The maximum number of cars permitted to enter the 2010 Championship has been increased to 26, two being entered by each competitor. Pending completion of the discussions referred to above, further due diligence is currently taking place on other potential entries.

Why?
I like more teams.
I like less teams running no good drivers supported by factory, ie Nakijima, Nelson junior etc.
and old worn out drivers hanging around

Why? Because quality is far better than quantity when it come to top level motorsport.

IMHO Spanky's vision of low budget F1 is a major mistake. Alienating the manufacturers by trying to force them to compete under a set of rules which make no sense for the supposed premiere class of motorsport is not the way forward.

When F1 loses it place as a technical innovator and becomes another "spec" series then what have the major manufacturers got to gain from being part of it???

Without them, and the technical innovation they bring, it's just another bland open seater racecar category. Personally I'd rather not watch a procession of 26 cosworth powered Dallara/Lola etc cars doing laps
