blown EFI fuse Blacktop??

Postby Maxwedge » Tue Jun 09, 2009 10:28 pm

I have a Blacktop fitted to an AE82 FXGT, it occaisionally blows an EFI fuse for no apparent reason, sometimes cold sometimes when hot, there is no pattern to it.
broke down on the motorway tonight, pulled the EFI fuse and replaced with another, but it just blew straight away. But after a tow home then another new fuse it was all ok. It doesnt seem to be temperature related. could a low fuel level cause the pump to get hot causing the EFI system to overload? diagnostic code says oxy sensor, well thats not connected but i dont think it should affect the EFI system.
Any ideas appreciated?

Had the same sort of issue when I fittd the silvertop to my AW. Fuse blew when doing more than about 5500rpm. Fitted a bigger fuse - 15A I think, could have been 20A - and it was sorted. Put the 10A back in and it blew everytime.
See ya

check your oxy sensor wires around the exhaust, I had a issue were there was some slack and the o2 heater power wire melted and would touch the exhaust at random times and blow the fuse

Yes that sounds as though it could be the problem, when I did the conversion the plug for the oxy sensor was smashed off and I know there are a couple of wires exposed, I will get under there tonight and check it out. Thanks for the help.
