C-52 FWD box complete teardown.

Postby dusk93 » Wed Jun 10, 2009 6:06 pm

Okay about a month back the gearbox in my AE-92 had a wee accident as the driveshaft thought it would be funny to fall off and put a hole in my gearbox so i sourced a second hand box so i can still drive my rolla but i found out it can be repaired so i went and saw guys down at the cylinder head shop on sunnybrae road last week, to ask them repairing The hole ( needs a plate welded in about 3-4cm by about 8cm slightly larger than your average mobile) anyways searched my haynes for info on how to completely strip the gearbox as the welder only wants the casing nothing else. i took off all the bolts required and i can see there is a red silicon type glue or something holding it together, could be liquid gasket or something,, anyways i would like to know how to get it apart i dont want to be too agressive as i dont want to break it anymore

also what should i use to clean it as he says i need to get rid of all oil and everything would just degreaser work or maybe petrol and a wirebrush?

many thanks guys =]

i shall try get some photos of the hole later

if its just red goo its liquid gaskit should be able to split the casing with a cold chisel a few gentile taps to get it started id go get some proper parts cleaner from ripco or supersheep auto bnt ect and get a parts brush its a round medium bristle brush (used to clen lots of gearbox parts ) and enjoy the smell of gearbox oil as you get it on your hands
I appologise for my bad grammar

Why not just use another box? C52's are worth about $60.
