SSR Star Formula

Postby rx7guy » Thu Jun 11, 2009 7:43 pm

Hey I've got a pair of 3 piece 15x7 +26 4x114.3 SSR Star Formula as seen here

Thinking of widening, are outers hard to come by? If they are rare I might sell, whats a rough price I could ask?

widening in what sense? welding bands in?

i presume you know its not really that legal eh?

that style of centre in my experience is not super popular, and the offset is not fantastic for your average rwd junky. you could probably get $250 - $300 for them reasonably easily, if you wanted more than that you would need to be fairly patient IMHO.

theres a few places that might make new outers for you though

that style of centre isn't popular?

I can tell you, those rims are worth at least $300. I have a set of Volk 15x6.5 +19 offset with similar looking centres and I get people asking me to sell constantly, often for over $400.

Anything RWD with a bit of dish which looks tidy seems to be attracting good coin right about now.

popular, not so much (imo) it seems to be the likes of longchamps / mark 3s that tend to fetch the big dollars

do they have a standard 3 piece bolt pattern? could alway look out for some cheap 3 piece rims that you can get outers for.

Are you sure it's illegal to widen a 3 piece? I figured since its just bolted together I could swap the front piece for a larger one to get more dish, as long as I could find something that matched.

Not sure if its standard pattern though.

But thats a lot of money I didnt know they were worth that much!

Yeah not to bad, have a few nicks on the lip and on the tyre side of the rim though.

Bolting up other inner/outter parts is fine to widen the rims.

When he mention illegal he also mentioned welding, which is not what you're talking about.

They will be worth as much as someone is willing to pay. I got a pair of Volk equivalents for $40 so what one person pays doesn't determine value.

I paid $1200 for a set of them except in 16x8" 0 offset, which was a little on the high side but they suited my car well and was the best fitment I could find for the price without going for brand new rims which wouldn't suit the era of the car at all.

Try your luck on www.oldschool.co.nz forums, plenty of RWD 4x114 people there.

also who said anything about welding in bands? that's what you do to steel rims, which is perfectly legal to do so. To widen 3 piece wheels like these you just find another set and use all the wide sections bolted together.

i'd agree with that.
not as popular now as now every man and his dog has a set(or pair) of mesh.
i would say there in the same bracket as "superlites" (watanabe rs8 not included in this bracket)

you should get $250-300 easy.

yeah thats fine if you can find another pair.

its possible to widen alloys by welding bands in as well. but most of the engineers i have spoken to about it refused to do so, with one saying he might do it if he was convinced it was going on a race (ie not being used on the road) car

just be aware if your looking for another two. there where changes in the design of wheels from the 80's to nowadays, diameter of mounting bolts and placement. your ones look quite new, so would be hard to find two more.

and quite a few models to choose from, last i remember there's 8 SSR mesh styles. and countless copies. i have some enkei mesh that look the same as reverse mesh, and my mate has wed's mesh that look alike too.

haha whoops it appears I can't read well. All along I thought you had a set of four, not a pair. So yeah I guess $250 would be a fair price for a pair.
