charge light mystery

Postby Pelo » Tue Jun 16, 2009 3:38 pm

The battery charge light in my EE90 corolla has been lit intermittently for a week, and last night the battery died completely. I have checked all the fuses and replaced the alternator with a spare but the light is still on. Voltages are:

12.2v - battery to earth, car off
13.9v - battery to earth, engine running at cold idle speed
14.1v - alternator to earth, engine running at cold idle speed

What else should I check? :?

How old is the battery? Battery could just be stuffed and wont charge perhaps.

Yeah that would be the first thing I would get checked too. 12.2V can still be given off by a stuffed battery.

Once batteries (except deep cycle jobbies) have been run flat, they're never really the same again. Proly just your battery, could've been like that for a while but the cold really lowers their cranking amps.
