r154 how strong

ive got a jzz30 r154 gearbox coming and im not sure how much power it will cope with ?
with out having to upgrade the washer thing?

it'll take 500rwkw, if you're only running bikkies on the back

Or 200rwkw if you've got slicks and a 1600kg car

So you see it's hard to give you an accurate figure, basically if you plan on driving it hard, and your car makes decent power for a streeter, you'll want to sort the thrust washer sooner rather than later.

on that note, we've been thrashing ours behind a 230rwkw 1j for over ten years without doing the washer, and it's still going strong. they don't like drag so much, but what does, but they're fine for street, track and drift.

yea its for drift ,aiming for 300kw 400hp ish
so does it blow the washer when you are useing 1st gear hard
like launches or changing down in to corners etc?

$&#$% I hate it when people say that. Power and torque are intimately linked through engine speed, so unless you're revving a lot over the standard redline, chances are that if you have a lot of power you also have a lot of torque.

Plus, the instantaneous torque loads you can put through a gearbox probably has a lot more to do with the rotational inertia of the engine and other rotating components (including wheels), and the traction available at the tyres than the torque or power available at the engine.

I'd echo what's been said above - the kind of use the gearbox sees will largely effect how long it lasts, and parts that fail due to wear will wear more quickly when you have more torque and/or more power (bearings are typically lifed by both applied forces (and therefore torque) and speeds (linked to RPM or wheel speed, depending on which side of the reduction it's on)

I had a bit of a think and it hit me...450kW, or 600hp, would probably be about the power consumption of stadium lights! So here it is, lots of power, NO TORQUE!

Mine held 440wkw in my supra for quite some time - The only problem with the R154 is clutches. I went through 3, including 2 multiplates

Anything over 400wkw I would recommend spending up and getting the V160 as the clutch options are heaps better.

i know of a 1jzgte-r154 in a gx71 that blew third gear with 205-15's.. engine standard. driver drifting but spins out alot and holds his foot up it in 3rd as she goes round
