1kzte dual mass clutch

Postby Redd » Mon Jun 29, 2009 3:27 pm

well after nearly a year of abuse and burnouts for africa my clutch is starting to give up the ghost. I was told yesterday the kzn165s like mine run a "dual mass clutch" which apparently mean I have to replace everything including flywheel which costs like $1200 from toyota and I'm not keen on that. Then I was told you can convert them to a standard clutch setup from an older surf with a normal flywheel but is spose to be cheaper overall has anyone done this conversion and if so how much did it cost and where did you score your parts?

i havnt done it but i know aftermarket parts suppliers such as BNT/REPCO/PARTMASTER supply new conversion clutch kits for most dual mass setups including a new chromoly flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and thrust bearing.

would be worth a ring and see what they do.

also you could try ringing a commercial wrecker such as '0800 MY HIACE' and see if they will sell you a clutch and flywheel out of an early model low k wreck (long shot but worth a try). those gearboxes and easy as pie to get out so would be worth it.
