w series gearboxs issues

Postby D0DGEE » Wed Jul 01, 2009 10:21 pm

i just got a w series box and couldnt get 5th gear so pulled the back end housing off it and there was only reverse gear and no 5th by looking at it should there be another syncro and gear set in there with reverse or not. and are the only difference with w series boxes the ratios or are they not compatable with changing parts

care to elaborate a bit more on your W series box......
W50 is a steel case 5 speed, W55-59 is alloy case 5 speed.
sounds to me like you have either a) a W40 4 speed steel case, or a G40 4 speed alloy case hilux box

I used to have a W45... a 4 speed version of the W55.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

I wouldnt say its missing, based on that pic I would say its never been there from day one, making it a 4 speed box.

I would work out the gear ratios and go from there.

chances are you have a hilux 4 speed box or something similar, which without bellhousings attached can very easily be mistaken for W55 or W57 etc.

Work out the ratios and then you kow for sure what box you have

I too would say it is a 4 speed box, never been a 5 speed.
