Burning questions of the day answered by the Toyspeed populace

What do you think about genetic engineering/modification?

Just another branch of science.

I haven't looked into this much

I'm in two minds about the whole thing though really...

If they can create a crop that resists disease, frost, bad weather, basically anything that produces a bad harvest - CONSISTANTLY - then good...

The technology is too new to be released into 'production' IMO - It just makes more sense than to release something that could potentially change the human race forever... introduce new diseases, bring back old diseases.

It goes against the whole 'survival of the fittest' thing that the human race is based on and has been based on since the beginning of time

"Survival of the fittest" hasn't worked since chivalry.

Those that protect the weak and innocent are defying the natural law that says the strong will survive and the weak will die. Humanity's compassion has practically halted our evolution.

As such, I think it only fitting that we utilize genetic engineering to do what evolution can't.

...I'd like to see you not craking under the kind of pressure that is on George Bush right now...he's doing a great job :x

but as long as they don't start genetically modifying Skylines (or Holdens)I'll be a happy girl. [/i]

I'd rather die by bomb than by chemical or biological weapon...and rememebr he has access to a lot of documentation that we don't and that I know mroe than you about this particular issue having friends in the us armed defense...not that that's important :D

Hahaha you have been brainwashed obviously, havent you heard recently about all the "comings out" of the truth? Bush retracting statements, people comitting suicide because the coverup was blamed on them.

So why would you want to die from a bomb blast? You obviously dont know what happens to people when hit from nuclear arms do you? The same thing, And to put things in perspective: There was never any proof that came out of Iraq that suggested any biological weapons were used.

I'm sure your friends in the US armed defence (being potato peelers or whatever thier position may be) dont know shit all except for the crap thats being spoon fed to them from the top!! :P

since when was this a competition? how do you know what he knows? are you a mind reader?

nope you're right its not important, it dont mean diddly squat. how can you honestly sit there and tell people that you know that the information your "friends" in the "us armed defence" they are being fed is cold hard facts?

get real!

Bloody hell.

OK you guys, I have a unique perspective on this...I'm an American. I voted in the 2000 Presidential election (NOT for Bush...who IS a wanker).

We only have to survive one more year with Bush in the White House. Hopefully he'll get kicked out next year.

And...anyone who thinks Bush is doing a good job is in serious need of a reality check. Most of what's happened during the past three years has been the work of Bush's administration staff, NOT Bush himself. You people have a lot to learn about American government.

Night Kid wrote:OK, let me put this in perspective for you.

The human race is dependent on three crops for its existence. Rice, wheat, and corn. If something happened to them, the human race would die out. End of story.

If we can create alternate crops to sustain the human race, the chance for destruction is much less.

Genetic engineering, like any other tool, is neither good nor evil in itself. I think it could be used to do vast good, like destroying illnesses, improving our natural resistances, increasing the nutritional value and size of various types of food, etc.

If someone from the other side could please explain just WHY we should "keep it in the lab," I'd like to hear it....I'm very curious as to what your reasoning is.

Fundamentally, I agree with you on this. But wouldn't it have been better to keep the lid on it until more was known about long-term effects ? The scientists would then have had more factual information to fight back with.
