20v ingitor wiring

Postby johntramp » Sun Jul 05, 2009 3:33 pm

Hey.

I am trying to workout the wiring for a 20v 4age ignitor.
Code: Select all
C    Coil negative
Ext  Tach
B    Coil positive / +12v
I    IGF
F    IGT
Are these correct? It's the IGF/IGT ones I am unsure of.

Cheers

There is no black/yellow coming out of my ignitor plug. Here are the colours I have.
Code: Select all
C     black/red
Ext   black
B     black/white
I     yellow/green
F     blue/yellow

If you have a 20V igniter the pins are actually labelled on it,

on the underneath, side opposite side to the part number sticker,
moulded into the the black plastic part of the plug, very small.

Here's how my ignitor plug is wired, looking at it with the clip at the top:

black/yellow trace with orange dots
black/orange dots
black/orange trace
black/orange dots
black/orange dots

Going to the coil is:
black/orange trace
black/orange dots

Wiring and motor were out of a 94 AE101. Sorry - I couldn't see if your letters matched with my plug.
See ya

Thanks for looking Simon but I don't see black/orange or black/yellow anywhere.

Reason I am asking is I am trying to get a 20v coil/igniter working with a 16v 4age with little success. Now I am pretty sure I have the wiring right as I can create a spark by manually giving a +12v tap onto the IGF pin of the igniter and I see the ecu's pulses when cranking on the 16v side of things. When I connect them together I get nothing. I figure this may mean the IGT signals behave differently between the two models?

well that tells me you have it wrong for a start.

IGT is IGnition signal To the igniter,

IGF is IGnition signal From the igniter,

to being signal from ECU to Igniter
and from the other way to signal coil -ve voltage spike has occoured.

so swap IGF and IGT ang you may be right.

Yup ;) it is. I get spark when I pulse the ignitor manually.

so you're using the 16v wiring loom and ecu. might explain the difference in wire colours. what version 16v?
not all igniters work the same. 4age 16v use the TCCS 'VAST' system.. dunno if 20v is similar?
would you need to compare the 16v ignitor wiring to see if they are similar to the 20v wiring?
why not just run the correct igniter?

It's a AE82 loom. 20v also uses VAST. I was just trying to use what I had spare. I will probably just get a 16v ignitor now.
