at160 celica's worth much now days?

Postby efnlow » Thu Jul 09, 2009 4:15 am

hey all, first of all i apologize if i have posted in the wrong place ( seemed like the right place to me 8) )

i have a nz new at160 4age celica, champagne in colour and very very tidy with 160 kms on the clock, lowered on king springs and undecided on either enkei rp01's or genuine volk ce28n's.

Anyway to the point, i'm not too sure on what price to put on it as i know the average celica doesnt really go for much these day, but as most of you know nz new 4age ones are a bit rarer to come across i will get a few pics soon.

Am i asking too much if i say $2k for it?

any input is much appreciated :)

if i were buying a celica, i would be wanting a 3S powered version. when 2k could probably get you into an FXGT, i dont think i would even look at an AT160. in my opinion if you want to sell it, you'd do better to leave it as a standard bandit and aim for the 'runabout' part of the market. (spending 1000s on new wheels is money you will never get back)

if you were serious about selling it, i think 1500 would probably attract enough attention to sell in a reasonable time frame. that being said, there are all kinds of crazy people out there, and getting the price you want is sometimes just a matter of finding the one that sees the car in the same light as you do.

good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Going back a few years, i paid $2k for my facelift import GTR, 3SGE powered with 155km on it. Then sold it for $950 with stuffed window regulator and clutch master cylinder.

Id agree with rollaholic tho, $1500 would make it sell reasonable quick. But again personally i wouldnt really look at a 4AGE powered one.

Definately do not put mags on if your going to sell!!

I paid 1350 for my 165 GT4, if reasonably well apart from dent in the door. That is with 200k.
These things disappear from roads, they rust like nothing else, and people usually don't give a crap about them. But don't expect huge money for them.
I would not pay more than $500 for a 4AGE powered one.
And what is so special about low grade NZ-new?
Usually NZ-New vehicles are of lower grade, poorer assembly quality (unless they were assembled in Japan and sold as new here) and questionable rust prevention. Who cares about Japanese maintenance record if the car was here for over 10 years?
I would choose Jap import over NZ-new any day, knowing how locals treat their cars (and I can spot a lemon fairly easy).

NZ new means something to some people, its a bit of a rarity and hence possibly collectible (or something)

personally i agree, imports ftw!

anyway, you may not pay more than $500 for one, but the drivetrain itself is probably worth a good $400 - and good luck finding anything with a WOF and rego that isint a complete shitbox / 200km + for less than $1000 at the moment, at least in auckland. people buying drivers dont care WHAT it is, if its tidy, goes, and is legal its worth something.

To the right person it would be worth $1500-2000, trouble is finding that right person. An exceptionally tidy but higher kms ST162 sold here in Hamilton for just over $1300. I reckon try your luck on trademe, put it up with some nice shots and demonstrate how tidy it is and put $2000 as the price - you can always go lower in price but not higher.

Thanks heaps for all the opinions guys, yeah i had a feeling i would be pushing shit up hill to try and get 2 for it but hey i can always get talked down and not up.

Also i agree imports FTW, i couldnt car less if a car is import or nz new,if it drives thats all that counts, but i do know that some people like nz new better.

I wasnt looking at buying wheels for it as i have countless sets lying around.

Judging from your guys feedback, i think i will just sell it as a standard runabout as theres no point wasting a good set of wheels just to get $200 more
