Sounds like a bandaid to me. The problem is the people that have no clue how to drive safely. I'm not saying it shouldn't happen, but why single one distraction out over the rest.

Ban these too as they are just as bad while driving:
* adjusting stereo in anyway
* eating / drinking
* talking to passengers (infact ban passengers full stop)
* perving at other drivers / pedestrians

That will do for now. Even if you banned them all, retards will still get licenses.

But I agree, that cellphones and driving do not mix. I seen a guy just yesterday to cut through 3 lanes and near-missing the exit sign on motorway, and he was doing all that while on cellphone. Then he continued to drive 30k below speed limit and holding up every one behind him.

I say they should concentrate on keeping distance, indicating and lane changing instead of speeding, also I have seen plenty times where cars went through obvious red lights but cops didn't do anything about it. And people turn where there is no turn sing like it is just a suggestion.

Just shows how many distractions there are out there. Cell phones being only one of them. I nearly got T-boned today at a stop sign, which aparently doesn't mean stop to some people. No distractions from what I could see either so yeah....

the difference with cellphones is i that you are concentrating on the call rather than the driving side of things, with stereo adjustment you concentrate for less than a second,(yes it only takes a second to crash too) likewise with smoking etc

i thought there was already a "distractions law" which was in place. Which i imagine could be used to cover cellphone usage.

Once again a "new" law is made but the real issue of policing these laws is being over looked.

Like with the "loss of traction" law. There mustve been laws in place to deal with that before hand.
