Forum idea - improved parts for sale mod

Postby Paulio » Mon Aug 24, 2009 1:53 pm

Hey,

As a few of us have quite a few parts that could be of use for other toyspeedians, what about an improved parts for sale mod for people who have more than just 1 off's for sale. Its an effort trying to promote and sell something that is just sitting around, but if one could just list it in a 'current' parts list, I think it could be easier for both the seller and the searcher/browser/buyer.

Santas list is a good example of why we could do with an improvement here.

Of course still keeping the conventional method for more important items, or flick-it-off stuff.

Thoughts?

Wasnt really thinking about the sponsors. You would have a better means of stock list, like a smokin website 8)

This being more for for the users who have toyota specific parts that they dont want to biff, and someone may search for at some stage.
Kind of like the trademe feel, knowing that the lists have a better chance of being current. Old parts for sale posts can be a bit hairy.

Its a PHP code hack and database hack that would basically run a Shop front within the PHPbb code. Here is one example / demo site of the type of software avalible.

http://www.phpca.net/phpBB2/adverts.php

If this is not the Idea thats been put forward please correct me now as this is what i have taken to understand as being the case.

yes i know you are all up for suggestions (and innuendos and other things) but no one seems to act upon said suggestions and there is never a call for comment or opinion on the matters.

Here is a suggestion then: Change the copyright of the site from 2005 to 2009 on the index page.

My thoughts would be the following.

A database, simply listing the part and the engine code/chassis code it was for. By clicking on it, it takes you to a page with a pic, contact info and or other info about the part (Either a thread, or another part of the database?)
1996 Curren - On Tardme

Yeah thats the guts of it.

I would use it, I have a few random bits & pieces that I would put in the toyspeed collective parts database haha

Anyone comment on like or dislike of this idea? I mean if it aint gunna get used then there isnt point in trying for it. I should create a poll and let the majority decide its fate.

Some benefits may include:
* Greatly improves searching for parts
* Ability to promote & list all items a user has for sale
* Easier for the seller to manage his/her for sale items?

this is toyspeed not a for sale site.
There are plenty of sites for selling stuff anyway. I doubt there would be many people that only use toyspeed to sell parts.

with a database comes alot more admin work? you got to remember to keep everything as simple as possible, not just to make it easier to browse but also to manage, at the end of the day this is only a forum. maybe another sub folder/genre/topic (can't remember what to call it right now) for people with a list of things to sell? or people who sell alot on a regular basis

I see some benefit in a managment point of veiw as the software would manage ads far better than posts with missleading titles that users have to sift over to find goods have been sold prior etc.

It would allow limits im sure on ads posted per user, and abilitys to add photos.

Do you not perhaps think that we are trying to get something done??? Nothing really happens that quickly when you're dealing with free services
