Rain-X Anti Fog.... GRRR!

Postby ebgamer » Thu Aug 27, 2009 6:12 pm

Hi all.

My windows in my trueno seem to fog up heaps and i was getting sick of waiting forever for them to de-mist so i decided to hit up super cheap and see what products they have available for that.

After hearing heaps about Rain-X i thought they must be a reputable brand so i got their Anti-Fog product.

Not only does this product not work, it has made the problem worse! i also have no idea how im going to get it off my windows!

I hope i will be able to return it!

If you do a google search, the reviews available all say the same story, wish i had done that before buying the product.

Anyways the purpose of posting here was to warn people not to buy this product as its dangerous and a waste of $10!

Interesting, I never had that problem when I used it. To get it off, I'd try some hardcore glass cleaner, or something like meths or isopropyl alcohol.

The number one reason not to remove AC in your daily. Recirc/Window/AC on is quite hard to beat.

i used to use rainex anit fogg in the rally car. i agree its absolute sh*t. smears and is terrible to wipe off. I now use a product from local moto x shop that they guys use for their visors. Its awesome and easy to use, expensive but for me its well worth the money!! There are a few products out there for the bikies that all work pretty well.

also the best way to remove it is either a fine mist of water, or breathe on the glass to fog it up a bit then rub like crazy

You have to use the in car one very sparingly and even so you gotta rub off all traces of it. Works OK, but wouldn't buy it again.
Aircon clears mist in 1/2 a sec.
Spent $800 on fixing the aircon earlier this year, best $800 ive spent...

I had opposite effects for me - the stuff for the inside worked a treat but the stuff for the outside was total rubbish. When there was only light rain the droplets would evenly scatter in fine formation on the screen making it worse, but when it was a decent downpour it seemed to work alright.

virtually any soap/detergent product will work. The fog is caused by tiny droplets of water clinging to dust/dirt particles on the surface and refracting the light (or something). Detergents dissolve the dust and crap and give a smooth surface, and I think also allows the moisture to dissolve. Try it on your bathroom mirror - rub some soap on it (and spread it round with water) and it wont fog up when you shower. If you do the opposite and clean the mirror excessively and polish it and shit it'll attract lots of dust and fog up like crazy

I use shampoo on the inside of my race car,
just grabbed a few of the little bottles of stuff you find in the Motels.

Works great, but you need to run it on, let it dry and wipe it off.
And the Rain X exterior is great, much past 180k and the wipers dotn even touch the screen as the air pressure lifts them off, so the Rain X is all that is doing the job at speeds.

Rain-x anti mist is rubbish, I put it on and it makes no difference at all. Luckily it was free. All it did was leave a hazy mess on my windscreen. Shame because the actual anti rain stuff is great, one application lasted me all winter and it makes a huge difference at 80+ ks.
