Recondition Power Steering Hose

Postby celica_xr9145 » Fri Aug 28, 2009 2:02 pm

Got a leak on the high pressure power steering hose with the joints on it.

Ive been trying to get hold of a new one but easier done than said and dont really want a 2nd hand one of trade me unless i have too.

Is it possible to get it reconditioned or resealed?
If so, where do i go and how much am i expecting to pay?

(pic makes the leak look much smaller than it is)

If you look at the 2nd picture on the left, its coming out from where the hose meets the joint.

Thanks

yeah any hydraulics place should be able to do it
pirtek, ryco, hydralink etc etc
they will need your old hose as they will probably have to re-use the fittings

and by this Rev means you will have to drain all your PS fluid and then bleed again once new hose is back on

Just did that hose on a celica at work last week. Its fun trying to get it out. You have to remove the power steering pump to get it out, which means removing the drivers side axle to get the pump out.
You wont be able to get the hose off the pump in place due to the way the pump is mounted.
Must be common problem with them, they leak quite regularly.

thanks for the replies, unfortunatle there's no pirtek in dunedin but there is a hydraulink so will give them a call.

Ive helped my dad bleed his power steering system so thats not a problem 8)

Sorry cant tell you that, i was just doing the job. There were other things as well i did on the job, the shaft had to come out anyway as was doing cv boots, so it was easy.
The one i did was leaking throught the cords in the hose, not out of the fitting.
You wont be able to seal it up, with it being on the high pressure side.
