Well, we know her name is Melanie Skelton. since that's in the post further up this page.... phone number 0272601666 and plate is FNKYGT, so anyone who really wanted to shouldn't have a problem finding her and requesting a refund in person.

couple mates paid up entry and prob wont get money back.

as she stated on starlet central she wont give money back as it aparantly all went to taupo racetrack and has no job to repay it

legally they are entitled to it however would it be worth the time/money/effort to take it to the courts? mayb if everyone that paid got together n sorted something out and split costs or something, pm if interested in more details, can put u through to my mates that have paid

I guess you want to be bloody careful who you give your money to, best stick with well know organisers or [gasp] car clubs.

In the advertising she did mention there were no refunds... as sik_gt_starly said, perhaps the track kept her deposit for canceling, they do that sometimes.

Here are a few things you will need to consider if you are going to take her to court for the money. (I'm work as a debt collector and know its not easy to sue for something of this nature)

-contract? (verbal/written)
-did advertising state no refunds (yes)
-cost vs. amount to recover (up to you)

But it is stink though. It is hard to run a trackday that is low in interests and commit several thousands to it without knowing you'll get the costs covered.

Motorsport NZ clubs or event holders like Playday on track, or someone with an established record etc. are the ones to go with if you are worried about your funds.

hey there guys.
im the presedent for the 3000gtperformance.co.nz club.
i have 4 or my members fully paid up for this track day of her's and have been also told no refunds.

in our site she did not post that there would be no refunds.
i also have been talking to jacki from taupo track and now know that of atleast 6 payments of 130.00 we made, she only gave taupo track $260.00.
she works at west brook service centre in rotorua and number is 07 349 2455

please email me 3000gtperformance@gmail.com if you have paid a deposit as i belivve we have a case for the small claims court.

I have tried to get in contact with her and told her we will be getting a refund. since then, i received 10 abusive texts and threats of harrasment charges :?

Yes you are right there are no refunds, but this all changes when event is cancelled by the organizer and other date is not set.

The fact that the OP has been subsequently edited by its author destroys the integrity of its content. In other words I'll take the opinions of the many who say that there was no reference to refunds in the OP, over that of the author who's had to go back and edit their post several times.

The 'current' version is dated August 12 and is the 3rd edit in total. The OP (original poster) can keep editing until the thread is locked.

Speaking personally, I think a refund of at least a proportion of the deposits made is entirely appropriate. Seems that the total deposits rendered far exceeds the actual deposit required of the track, and there's hardly any transparency here as to what the actual costs involved are... !

I would definately be thinking twice about dealing with this person in future, if nothing else.

Found out alot about this girl today. I have a photo of her, she does not look like a girl that would run a scam, but you never know.
Some points for us.
# 1 Yes she did only pay $260.00 on the 30/07/09 to the track, but maybe we should not name people that are helping us.
#2 On the 17/08/09 I got FNKYGT (Mel) to confirm that the event was going ahead before I paid, which she pmd this confirmation to me .
#3 Under the fair trading act we should be able to get our money back as I'm sure 'no refunds' doesn't count if the so called organiser just cancels the day for no valid reason.
#4 We do have to fix this, as it will only be time before others start a scam like this and the tracks will stop the booking of track days other than NZ car clubs.
#5 This is new one for me, but yes we can group together and take her to the desputes court.
#6 Only $60.00 to $130.00 each for us, But FNKYGT just made $2500.00.

people change quickly when theres money involved. maybe the temptation took the better of her?
One of our workmates took 2500 in scrap money from the bosses desk once, would have been one of the same guys who would have benefited from it :?

either way I would expect some sort of suitable explanation, and if she isn't in a financial situation to repay the debt then she should be jumping through hoops to try get some money back to the people who entered.
