at $100 a week = almost 10 years.

or remit their fines and give them something like 300 hours community work ($160 per hour, not a bad wage)

sad thing is, that they probably will get about 300 hours community service as they'll keep adding to it with more fines.

Wish I could wipe my student loan by doing 300 hours community service, or as I saw in the court news, have a 6 month jail sentence for 50k in fines.

If they get 300hrs community service, they won't do it. Then they will get taken back to court and fined $500 for failing to complete their community service. $50k -> $500 not a bad discount

I know a few people like that. I think its bullshit in a way how they can do it like that. Sometimes pays better then any day to day job so why would you pay off your fines?

Personally, I do pay my fines off, cause I feel its the right thing to do.
