my celica recorded a 93.2db at magoo muffler (not certified or anything) when the exhaust was brand new so chances are im also over the limit.
When they fitted it they said it was all legal and what not but now not so sure :?
Im getting it sorted ASAP though, looking into adding a resonator or something similar :?

Fixed. And as above, more than likely, your word vs theirs.

Technically anything louder than standard needs an exhaust cert.

Call certer. Book time, go there, he sets up equip for 5 mins, measures it for 2. If you pass, he puts it up on a hoist, draws a pic of the exhaust, puts a sticker on it, you give him some money. and away you go.

1 hour max?

nanny boyracerism all over the show.

imo... have a race car with no exhaust, and race it and tune it. and have a fast quiet daily. why the hell people want to drive around with drony noisey cars i have no clue.

if certifying a non factory exhaust is the case they better start green stickering ever car thats older than 98 cause most of them have had exhaust replaced or repaired

green stickers just get slapped all over the show because the cops cant give tickets for nothing, its a way of them ass rheeming you. I got a green sticker for "not having a warrant for more than 4months" go figure testing station asked what i did to get it and told them just cause it didnt have a wof.

costs an extra 40 bucks by the way on top of a normal warrant for no aprent reason and if you fail they charge you that again.

Youve got everything all mixed up. Were talking about a car, that is 2dB under the legal limit, and from factory is about 2-4 times quieter than that, according to some company who arnt certified to test it.

Cops dont green sticker every car left right and center. They always have a reason, and to green sticker a car, they must deem something about it dangerous, otherwise its a piss load more paperwork for them to do.

Remember, they have a job to do, and they dont make commission from tickets (Nor do they have a quota). All they are doing is keeping the roads safe/cars legal so let them do their job

Everything you've said is good, apart from the quota thing. Cops DO have a quota, there's numerous bits of info out there that prove this including memos from senior police. They like to say it isn't a quota, but it is, even if they call it another name.

My best friend, my brother, my girlfriends step dad. All Police, 2 spend their day in highway patrol cars. And have said numerous times (My best mate ive known for 21 years) said there is no quota. There is no bonus, there is no benefit for them other than knowing they are possibly getting some retard breaking the law off the road.

Even so. Its still there, quota or no quota, its his fault, not theirs

That's not right, it has to be defective, which is an envelope for anything that would cause you to fail a warrant of fitness test. They could green sticker you for having smoke coming out of your exhaust if they wanted to.

so they green stickered my ep71 standard starlet which pretty much only failed a wof on not having a brakeline clipped up at vtnz... in which the cop had no clue on.

i would contest the situation of the exhaust and green sticker to the bitter end.

If what avinesh is saying is true as in the exhaust is not that loud but yes it is modified surely the police officer could use his discretion and maybe give him a fine and give him so many days to get the exhaust certed and if it passes than you dont have to pay the fine. This happend to me a while ago not with an exhaust but my rear tyres were rather bald and the police officer gave me i think it was 14 days to get new tyres.
I believe this is a much better option and gives you a chance to fix the problem and would probably make police and public relations a lot better.
Not everyone knows you have to have the exhaust certed if its modified, i for one have past wof easily from vtnz and have than been pulled over and told my exhaust is illegal and have also been told a wof is not valid apart from the date and time it was issued?

Just my 2 cents

the key thing here is the VIRM and law are written with wording like:
in the inspectors opinion
or
at their discretion.

which means nothing is concrete unless you have it in writing from the CORRECT official.

it doesnt matter one bit what YOU think.

Thats right, but a cert of any sort isnt a safe guard against a sticker or fine simply because it is too easy to modify the exhaust or engine. "I think youve changed the exhaust". It does help though but there is nothing guaranteed.

The new exhaust law is written so loosely that if they "think" that your exhaust noise "may" be too loud they can sticker your car.

Its all bullshit but youre $&#$% either way.
