Speeding Ticket Advice
Got a speeding ticket last night. The date is correct on the infringement notice but the day is wrong ie: should be Friday but it says Thursday. Is this discrepancy any significant?

It's not about being PC. It's about what's realistic and what's not.
Presumably the cops have your apprehension logged, the ticket has your car's rego, colour, and your licence details which is all pretty clear evidence that you were actually apprehended.
But try it, by all means. They'll laugh at you, fine you anyway, and you'll look & feel like a dick.

TBH I don't think you'll find that many here, that are what I'd call PC.
Anyway, from experience when younger I got a ticket that had a minor detail wrong with it, wrote in and complained but got told it was irrelevant and that I still had to pay.
Just because they made a small mistake on the ticket doesn't mean its your get out of jail free card. That said if its a gross error on the cops part I say go to town.
At the end of the day I wouldn't bother and just pay it. Like the others say if you were speeding then you don't really have much of a defense.
Yeah its revenue gathering and all that but not much you can really do about it.

I say give it a crack, you have nothing to lose. I know of someone who has managed to avoid a couple of tickets due to small errors. The time on one ticket was a few hours wrong and after writing a strongly worded letter pointing out he was somewhere else at the time (and had witnesses etc) he managed to avoid paying it... but i should also point out the person getting the ticket was an officer of the law. Perhaps its more about who you know?

Which forum/place would be best for asking how to weasel out of fines? Just out of interest

You've done the crime, so as above, pay up. Don't speed if you can't afford to pay the fines

I recall that in 1978 I was in the Wellington court on a DIC charge. There were about 6 of us up for the same thing.
Bloke a couple ahead of me was a Moari chap who, just because I'm not PC, I'll call Rangi.
Turns out Rangi's ticket had his name spelt incorrectly and his address was wrong so, whilst the rest of us all had lawyers, he defended himself.
After being sworn in the judge addressed Rangi. Conversation went like this; (Rangi spoke a bit like Billy T James - honestly)
Judge: Who is representing you Mr. Rangi?
Rangi: It's no problem boss, I'm representing myself.
Judge: Why is that Mr Rangi?
Rangi: Cos this is a clear cut case and it'll be over in a couple of minutes boss.
Judge: In what way is it clear cut Mr Rangi?
Rangi: Cos they got my name and address wrong on the ticket boss so I'll get off it eh boss?
Judge: Regardless of what's written on the ticket, Mr Rangi, were you infact apprehended and found to be driving with an excessive breath/alcohol reading as stated? I remind you that you are under oath.
Rangi: Oh yes boss, that was me. But it doesn't matter eh, cos they got my name wrong.
Judge: Thankyou Mr Rangi. Your drivers licence is suspended for 9 months, you'll pay a $700 fine & $200 court costs. Stand down.
Interesting thing was, the rest of us got 6 months cancellation and $500 fines.
That's a true story.
