Caldina GT 3S-GE beams issues... random stopping.

Postby peas » Sun Sep 20, 2009 2:39 pm

Hi, so I'm driving along and my car coughs.. thats fine its just out of winter and maybe a little cold it has picked up snogging some other car. It has since started just outright stopping on a couple of occasions, engine dies etc causing me to coast to a stop in a hopefully convenient place before putting it back into P (being an auto and all) and restarting it. Which it does straight away... mostly... with the exception of yesterday at mission bay. It turned over but just won't fire. Played this "fun" game for about 3 minutes before getting over it and starting. The LED on the remote for my alarm wasn't lighting up as I thought this might be the problem with it so tried checking it was disarmed but it wasn't doing its thing (no hazard light flash)

Basically doesn't seem to matter hot or cold, acceleration or braking... just whenever it feels like it. I have no idea on the brand of alarm (brown kidney shaped remote... possibly jap?!?!) but am thinking it is the immobiliser... otherwise I have heard rumours that the electrics aren't great as these cars age... its done over 300km Would the alarm be the best place to start?

Problem resolved. Thought I would post in case others have this issue as mechanic has seen a few cases.

The cam sensor wires that run out through the rocker cover cowling, for lack of a better word, by the alternator have become brittle and chaffed on the opening resulting in a minor short that kills the engine.
