Postby Madaz » Sun Sep 27, 2009 9:46 pm

i was being sarcastic lol.

Just bought local buy sell and found absolutely nothing. Really wanting a dirty ol starlet rolling chassis, or one with poked motor or something!

Even a banger with no wof would be ok aslong as plates are live i guess.

its pretty hard finding a good starlet these days, the first one i saw i got it on the spot, because it was mint, big project car though, now i have no time for it :( maybe up for sale soon too

there was a white one on trademe a month ago, it was dirt cheap, something like $600 with dead motor, who ever got it, got a bargain.

yeah

Postby Madaz » Sun Sep 27, 2009 10:39 pm

yeah the old schoolers are getting so hard to find.

Ideally i wanted to do a ae85(dont we all?), DX corolla, or the starlet.

Even a mazda 808 wagon with rx2 nosecone and 12a, or a B1600 ute.

All are proving very difficult to find project bases.

If i find a decent old school toyota its prob gonna be a weekend track beast/fun car.

If i get a mazda, ill do it for looks and sell it when finished.

Was keeping it on the quiet in case I wanted it, but in this month's petrolhead mag there is a AE85 4A project in Rotorua for $300, could be a good base for someone

epiphany!

Postby Madaz » Mon Sep 28, 2009 4:29 pm

just had an epiphany....the older version MR2 used a 4AGE...with a rwd box correct?

It seems reasonably common. Would this be easy enough to use?

hmmm

Postby Madaz » Mon Sep 28, 2009 5:45 pm

so im thnking ill need:

rooted starlet
4age engine of any variety
intake manifold
t50 gearbox from an AE86 which would work with the existing crossmember(modified).
engine mounts and loom conversion

that pretty much cover it?

How much easier does it make it if i dont use an EFI 4age?

all 4ages are EFI... unless you spend upwards of $1000 on carbs etc.
i spose it is possible you may find someone selling an engine already set up....

EFI good, Carbs bad.

Why have crap performance and fuel economy when all the EFI stuff is available and cheap? There aren't that many wires involved.

you can use any intake manifold, the FWD ones can be cut n shut to make them face the other direction. main thing is to match inlet manifold to the head.

if you are set on a 16v i would be looking for a smallport if i were you - came in AE92 truenos / fxgts etc (though some got redtop bigports so one to watch out for)

smallports dont have TVIS badge on the inlet manifold
