Tyre Choice

Hey guys i need two new front tyres and wondering what your opinions would be..the size of my current ones are 205/45R16 and they are Firehawk SZ50's ... Wouldn't be too keen to get them again tbh (doubt they're even made anyway..) they weren't that great
Any recomendations on what type of tyre i should take a look at and where i could get some in auckland?

Just after some recomendations from peoples experience at first..they're going onto an EP82 with a td04l conversion so would really prefer soemthing pretty grippy...traction is pretty scarce at the best of times :S

Edit BZG Bling yes i know how to search, but new tyres are coming out all of the time and i wonder if theres any new wonder tyres out there, i'm loathe to deal with shops as mostly they'll tell you anything to sell a tyre. Rather first hand expereinces form people not looking to make a $ off of me (not saying THASHZ is doing this..)

i have had a good run out of my dunlop 02g's, i run them on my rwd starlet and my daily drive evo..
They have been updated by 03g's which are pretty pricey.

I believe toyo r888's are hard to beat, I'd say they perform to about 90% of what the dunlops do and are about 50% the price.

I have heard very good reviews on the kumho ku36. Not quite a semi slick compound but better than your normal road tyre compound therefore wont wear as fast as a semi would.

Talk to Nick and magwarehouse to get great deals.

Im using dz101's with the same profile as what you are running now - have been pretty happy with them, however apparantly the prices have increased since last year? (when I bought them). I found that there was a step in price existed between the cheapys (kingstar, federal etc) to My01's/ dz101s etc.

Really will depend on your wallet, and who you know...

dz101s are ok, effectively just a good street tyre still. They still lite up on a fwd turbo car failry easy.
Toyo RA1s are VERY good in stopping ALOT of wheel spin for a tyre you can use on the road, but will wear out kinda fast due to the race compound.

Thats why you should use KU36 as its an inbetween choice.

MY01's are crap, like driving on snow all the time.

Re001's are good, not so impressed with them lately, but pretty good in the dry, wet grip can be a bit iffy after long dry spells

Kumho KU36
Bridgstone RE11
Dunlop Z1 Star Spec
Yoko AD08

Worth reading, can we get the KU36's in NZ yet? I know the RE11 and Z1 have only just become available in the last month or so.. Dunno about the AD08

My friend uses Dunlop Direzza D101 exclusivly on his Holden Xu6 Supercharger and also on his Integra R-Type, reckons they are the shizz.

On my own car MR2 turbo, I use Falken FK452 (silica compound). Ive found them to have percise handling and truckloads of grip.

Wear wise I get 12,000 kms out of rears and 20,000 out of fronts.

Reckon you cant go wrong with D101, FK452 or Bridgestone Potenzas, all good tyres.

I had a bad experience with Toyo T1R and now avoid like the plauge (soft side walls = shite handling)

I hate when people say "have you tried searching" - ffs - half of the time the search comes up with some un-related crap or happens to show the thread but doesnt say if its on page 1 or page 15 of it so it takes ages to sift through - only to find nothing - then you're back to square one....

Anyway

I love my Toyo T1R's - they're on the front only.

I think they're better suited to a lighter car and don't seem to handle getting too hot very well. I found they started to sledge a little after a few laps....

the kumho ones are indent only guys so if you want them you will have to pay up front, delivery time is 2 weeks from australia i will price up if you like>?

Guess it all comes down to your budget (which you didn't state). No point suggesting RE11's or the likes if you can't afford them.
New Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric are the business if you can justify the expense. Dunlop SP Sport Maxx & Falken FK452 a little bit cheaper. Bridgestone Potenza RE001 are very good bang for buck along with Toyo T1R. Could always look at European brands like the Michelin Pilot range or Pirelli P7 or PZero.
I'm running RE001 on my Altezza & they have plenty of grip, wet or dry.
