ae101 starter motor fuse? engine won't crank

Postby levinguy » Thu Oct 01, 2009 8:22 pm

hey all

cant get my silvertop cranking in my levin, was working fine, took off my intake plenum and now it wont crank

i get 12 volts constant to the starter motor, but the exciter wire doesn't give 12 volts when the key is turned.

before i pull my loom out, is there a fuse for this wire between the ignition barrel and the starter motor? iv checked all the fuses i can find (engine bay box and right hand drivers side) and they are sweet.

most likely to be a break in the wire somewhere?

cheers

What's this thingee, please?

I too have an (intermittent) fault where the starter won't crank though the dashboard lights are fine, and there's not even a click when turning the key.

Try it in a minute and it starts up!

My wife did something I'd not ever thought of doing, turn the key and LEAVE IT TURNED. After a few secs the started worked!

Is this the ign barrel, the whole key assbly, a sticky solenoid, or your inhibitor plug thingee?

That is normally a sign of voltage drop.

Try the headlights rear demister and heater on and then try to start.

If it makes it worse it needs a starter relay.

Some cars had them factory? Which model is yours?
