If I was going to get a Commodore, I'd be going for the new V6 ones. Got good go but with reasonable fuel economy when cruising

Dad's VT SS 5litre gets ok economy around town, even better on the open road, its cheaper to run for a long distance then my caldina! and hes not pussyfooted either! Does help that it's manual, but my mates 5litre statesman gets good economy aswell. Bloody good engines, they go for ever.

Brother in law has a VS 5litre SS commy. Big car inside but the build quality just doesn't feel quite right. It does feel pretty quick and has the nice v8 rumble 8) Shame things such as the diff poo out on them.

Yeah that's what I figured for the 5 litre V8, but it was just poo all the time. I'd say it might have been a slight bit f*cked as my mate did pretend it was a V8 supercar hahaha.

Could have done with a good tune or even a remap at Torque Performance (or similar). I hear you can get quite good performance gains as well as fuel economy doing this.

I drove a SV6 for a week a couple of months back an I'd have to say I thought it was rubbish. I still believe all aussie cars have a finite life of about 15 years before they fall to bits.
IF it had to be an aussie car i'd probably go for a bf xr6t as having the best bang for buck. MY brother-in-law has a ba xr6t with the herrold upgrade (310kw) and with the 4 speed it really is not well matched for the performance of the engine. He had numerous episodes with the valve springs not playing the game, which led to a lot of tow truck rides (car had less then 50,000ks on it).
I was helping with my neighbours AU tickford xr8 and the attention to detail is so poor, at least 6 places in the engine compartment had stuff rubbing against other stuff, be it the heater hoses chafing against the bonnet or plug leads on the alternator.. the japanese car of the same era would not be in such a state.
NB: I'm not totally against aussie cars... I actually own a rubbish V6 VT for when i'm in aussie.

The Aristo surely would be much more reliable, and not an aussie piece of junk that will just falll to bits. You may even be better off in something eurotrash to spend less time with the car parked at the dealer...

Evo 4 230Kw atw

Anyways. What would be the fuel economy of say a stock Aristo compared to a 5 Litre V8 Commodore and a V6 Commodore?

dads ss gets arround 9-10 km/l on the cruise.

Also the LS1 equipped Cars move like shit off a shovel.

LS1 + Intake, Exhaust + Chip = somthing like 350KW @ Wheels (Have a mate that plays with them)

Also, XR6T's spit rods to bits if you abuse them

XR6T's have a plethora of issues too...basically, any Japanese car will be far better built than any Aussie built one. Get a JZX100 Tourer V 8)
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

Why would you be shoveling shit in the first place??? Get someone less educated to do it.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

That is true.

So, still no answer on the fuel economy of an Aritso. 6 cylinder Falcons and Commodores seem to be not too bad considering the size of them. How does the 3 litre turbo beast (2JZ) compare to these? And the 1JZ???

I can comment on 1JZGTE, they seem to be more economical than 3SGTE GT4 (probably due to lack of 4WD). That means that while I get 12L/100km around the town in my GT4, 1JZ will be about 10-11L/100km.
That is definitely something that an American-ish V8 cannot achieve.
As for 6cyl Holden? I doubt, it can do better, as the car is heavier, engine is bigger, aslo lacks VVT. For straight six ford, the engine is bigger, while head is definitely better design than anything that Holden has to offer, the car still heavy.
