Roadstone tyres?

Been looking for some middle of the road tyres, and these have been quoted to me at $300 each (215/35/18)

Are they reasonable? Or crappy imported junk? Bearing in mind I want to stay around that price.

Have also been quoted $370 for dunlop sport max, but are they worth $70 more?

This is to go on the front wheels of the corolla.

Roadstones are junk IMO, Sport maxx would be worth the extra $70 by far!!

So many different opinions on this board. Seems to be a lot of 18" tyres between 3-400

TOYO T1R
FALKEN FK452
DUNLOP SPORT MAXX
GOODYEAR EAGLE F1

I guess I don't want to be replacing these after 20,000 kms, so which of the above would last the best. Have been told the eagles are pretty soft.

Who sells them? And was that a price for 18" tyres? Also what sort of car are they on? Bearing in mind these are for a little fwd corolla, so comparing to fitment on a 4wd caldina may not be relevant?

Again, what size wheel and what car are you basing this on? The corolla is about 1200kgs FWD..

You sure they were T1-R's? Cause ALL Toyo's are Proxies.

My experience with GT-Radials has left me vowing never to buy them ever again. I thought they were good when I first got them, but thats because I never knew any different.

T1-R's poop all over them. Made my MR2 a hell of a lot more predictable and controlable in the wet. GT Radials made wet weather driving like Russian Roulette.

Torrential downpour @ 100kph on the motorway:
T1-Rs: No problems.
GT Radials: Felt like I was nearly driving on ice.

Strange, I Had the opposite experience.

I did have T1-R's (still have the tyres in the shed)

Most of my driving is Waikato goat tracks that we call roads/coastal windey's and t1r's would let my car sledge all over the place when trying to corner at pace, where as the gt's will get me around no problem.

Kinda like the German GSD3's vs the Chinese GSD3's.

Ive used T1R and FK452 on the MR2 , size 235/40/17

T1R - $250 each
Excellent grip
Agressive tread pattern

soft side wall = less sharper turn in (on MR2 anyway) had to run at 40PSI to get close the handling of the FK452

Falken FK452 - $265 each
Excellent grip
Agressive tread pattern
Stiff sidewall = sharp and percise turning

Wear wise these are both soft Silica based compound and on the MR2 which is know to eat rear tyres I was getting about 12,000 kms out of a set or rears. 190KW at the wheels didnt help either.

Bridgestone Potenza R011 is also a good tyre with stiff side wall and excellent grip. Ive settled on FK452, others will reccomend the Toyo T1R.

PS Anything that grips really well is not going to give you alot of running time.

What type of Corolla are they going on?

Maybe T1r's might be abit over kill. Im not a fan of toyo's at all, I dont like the construction of them.

I took a 45km/h in the Altezza at 90km/h on sunday with the GT Radials that I have. No under steer, No over steer, no tyre squeel at all.

frank allen use to have a special for 215 35 18 eagle f1's at like $199 a tyre.
not sure if its still on, but could ask a mate who is manager @ one of the auclkand branches if you like?
