I got miss matched calipers :(

Postby cat007 » Thu Oct 29, 2009 10:56 am

Good morning all

Here's one for ya lol

After months of tinkering away at getting caliper brackets made, custom braided brake lines made, bought new pads and rotors, new master cylinder and re-did my hard lines - it turns out I got sold a Left Front caliper and a Right Rear caliper. I bought them back in April from Cardwells. Unfortunately I doubt I still have the receipt – however they are still like new, well, they are new as I have not put them on a car yet....

I have a copy of the questions and replies from the trademe auction http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =214450449

I also have emails from Wilwood support who have confirmed (after sending them pictures of the calipers and their serial numbers) I do indeed have one that’s designed for the front left and one for the back right.
I’m going to go in there today during my lunch, with the callipers, and see what they have to say about selling me a miss-matched pair.

What does everyone think my chances are of getting them to swap them for the right pair

Oh yeah – here’s the kicker. They’re cast ali wide mount Superlite callipers – which are an end of line/discontinued item......

Cheers :)

Ouch, that's no good.
I'd say have a damn good look for the receipt, as I would imagine it'll be tricky getting anything done without one.

Problem is that it was a cash sale and I'm only half sure I was given a receipt lol

Yeah that's not good. As they are a discontinued item, I'd say Wilwood won't be able to swap them for you either. Can't hurt to ask.

dont call them, just go in there. leave attitude at home, if you have one (i dont know you, dont take offence :D)

be friendly, dont try and blame them (ie, 'i think there might have been a mix up' works better than 'you $&#$% it up')

any place that gives a shit about their reputation will try and do what they can to help you, at least to the point of checking for their copy of the transaction

edit - after reading the Q & A, was it a business? or just some guy?

if the latter i think you are screwed :D

i hate dealing with cardwells, when i was looking for wilwood stuff way back, they where not interested to make a sale, im sure there real friendly with v8 super car teams who drop 10k+ each time they visit, but my experience has been shocking, was much easier buying from ebay shops in yankland. or now from my local wilwood dealer, much cheaper too.

Yeah I get the same impression whenever I go there. Not so often now.
As soon as you mention anything about imports, they go to sleep.

Haha I have had the same experience. Thats why I wont shop there ever again. I would rather pay more somewhere else.

really they should be supplying you with the new line (if they cant get the right calliper from the discont. line) for free.

thats just not good enough not supplying the right parts, especially something as important as brakes.

if they are a professional outfit, there should be no issue.

But... did you buy them off someone on Trademe as a personal transaction, or buy them from Cardwells, in which you would have got a GST receipt and the likes?

It was off Vanessa at Cardwells

They've been unable to source me a normal pair or a replacement one so have said they'll give me my money back

Bit of a shame - but oh well. I'm getting a pair through Bazda anyway :)

Cheers
