Blacktop ECUs - Auto/Manual differences?

Postby Dragger_Dan » Sun Nov 01, 2009 5:57 pm

I'm doing a new loom for my 20v conversion into AW11. My previous setup was charging and starting circuts from the AW11 loom merged with everything else from an auto blacktop loom, and using an auto blacktop computer.

I've just noticed that the new loom blacktop loom I was about to start work on only has 2 plugs into the ECU, whereas my old one has 3. So a couple of questions about this.

1 - Have I been sold the correct loom? It seem to have all the correct plugs on it sensor and engine wise for it to be a blacktop 20v loom.

2 - Is there a difference between manual and auto configurations in regards to the ECU plugs?

3 - Will I need a new ECU or new loom?

4 - My pinout diagram I have for 20v ECUs has 3 plugs, and seems to be accurate. If there is another configuration is there another pinout diagram floating around?

i think the other connector youre referring to is the 22P connector that goes to the loom inside the dash i.e power sources. the two connector 26p/18p youve got will go to the engine bay.

Some blacktop looms have the 3rd plug some dont. Youll just need to find the 3rd plug from somewhere.

The auto and manual blacktop ecu boards are the same but the manual ecu is missing the components to drive the auto trans etc. So the pinouts are the same. Club4ag.com has a blacktop pinout in the tech reference section.

You will want a manual ecu as, although the auto ecu will run, they idle high and dont seem to have the same topend as the manual ecu.
This can probably be fixed by bridging a wire to make the ecu think its in drive or something but I havent looked into it.

Yeah the plug that is missing off my loom is the smaller one of the three. IIRC from the pinout diagram it powers the ECU, has speed sensor and warning light on it. Seems kinda strange that it would be missing - did this plug go straight to the dash on some of them or something like that?

3rd plug is normally part of the body loom, as said,,,

look at the plug/list on the far right

Yeah that's the one. It was part of the engine loom on my old one. I'll salvage it off that.

its wired straight to the body loom not only the 4a family uses it, quite common plug to be missing when doing conversions as its overlooked
