Pluging in the link ecu to PC

I went out and bought the cable to connect my link ecu to my computer. Downloaded pclink v3.40.When i pluged my ecu in it apeared on my computer but now after using device wizard to install the driver for it the link doesnt even show up on my computer when i plug it in. Ive tried different usb ports restarted the computer. The pc doesnt even register a device plugged into the usb after installing the drivers but before that it did.

If it doesn't work first time time up it is a real Bitch to get it to work for some reason.

Took me a couple of hours to get it to work last week when I was doing something at work.


From memory it will ask to load the driver when you connect the cable and power up the ECU,
and it will ask twice as there is one driver to load, and then another one after it,


and the other problem i have found is the auto-com port detection didn't work and I had to figure out which one it was on and manually select it.

Yeah thats right i had to install two drivers now my pc doesnt detect it at all... ill try that auto com thing like u suggested

I went to device manager and looked to see which one was listed as where the link was, and manually selected that.

if you plug the the link into your pc before you install the drivers. thats when it all goes bad. as your pc uses the wrong drivers.

It installs the drivers when you install PC link,

but does more when you connect.

I went to device manager and when the link is plugged in it says the link is on com3. I go to the link software and select port com3 and search ecu and still doesnt find anything.
Does the ecu need power for my pc to find it?

Yes it will need power.

Yeah I recently went through this myself but did a bit of reading on the link website. You can install a couple of sets of drivers on the computer by connecting the link without it being in the car, however to use it with the pclink software in anyway the ecu needs to be powered up.
