I used heat wrap on a steampipe manifold, was a well made custom twin entry one fusion welded with a tig. I thought it may help to keep underbonnet temps down a bit. Although it lasted a few ks it eventualy cracked that bad it blew a section right out near the flange area. When I removed the wrap I found the tubing was quite rusty so just welded it and refitted without the wrap.
not certain if the cracking was caused by the wrap or just the nature of the manifold heating up and cooling etc, but the section i repaired hasnt recracked again. but yeah it defenately caused it to rust pretty bad.
