TRD sports thermostat

Just wanted to get some second opinions

Just use a factory Toyota thermostat. Don't use those $hit Tridon ones from Repco though.

Don't use shit Tridon ones from anywhere.

I'm a fan I have run this TRD Thermostat in my Supra for years open road water temps run at about a 1/4 to a 1/3 in comparison to the factory my cars water temp used to run at about 1/2 on the water temp gauge.At the track though water temps are dead steady at between a 1/3 and 1/2 on the water temp gauge.

That's fine for a car that's going to go out on a track, but for a road car stick to the stock temp.
A colder car uses more gas. Leave it at the normal (factory) operating temp.

with the money invested in your car i'd have thought anything less than half would be worrying you, forget about gas costs cold engines wear faster!

I had one in the Trueno

Had it in for about 2 weeks then took it out, car never got off auto choke because it never warmed up enough, fuel use was stupid, 250kms per tank with it to 450kms per tank with stock temp

Its now sitting in my hall cupboard being useless, glad i didnt pay anything for it

You'll need an aftermarket ECU with water temp fuel compenstation adjustment to use one of these thermostats, or else it'll never get out of cold temp fuel compensation.

To my understanding these thermostats help to prevent potential steaming of certain hot spots of the engine?

Certainly don't need one unless you are laying down some decent power.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Dunno why people install these into road cars. The only thing they achieve is poor fuel consumption and premature engine wear :? As Akane said, you can't reap the benefits of having one without an aftermarket ECU and tune and even then they're not ideal for road driven cars.

Poor fuel consumption well I do have a HKS F-Con V Pro in my car and fuel mileage on a full tank has increased by about 50-60 km on a full tank.I got from my front door in Douglas St in Wgtn to 1/2 way between Wairoa and Gisborne and thats when the fuel light came on thats the furtherest I've ever got on a full tank.
