changing brake fluid with abs

Postby the fallen303 » Thu Nov 26, 2009 8:53 am

hey guys, after some info about changing brake fluid in my jza70. are there any tips and tricks for doing this? how have other people done it? or have you just taken it to a shop and asked them to do it?
cars without abs, don't you just start at the furthest caliper from the master cylinder, pump through until fluid is new, then work through from furthest to closest caliper? does this also work for cars with abs? will this flush all the fluid out of the abs unit, or will there still be a bit of the old stuff left in it?

sorry for all the questions...

John.

i'm pretty sure it's the same process. I have done this in my silvia and it came out fine. you'll never get 100% of the old fluid out as it will always lurk in a few places. but thats nothing to worry about really.

yeah, I've never done anything different for bleeding when it comes to abs.

Some say that when your changing brakepads with abs you shouldn't force the piston back without the bleed nipple open so as not to put fluid reverse through the abs pump.

I've never done that and had any issues, not sure what effect its having on the pump, still works fine though.
