Another 3SGTE question

Postby loudstealthGT-Four » Fri Nov 27, 2009 6:45 pm

Ok so one of my options for fixing my st185 gt4 is an engine swap. Was thinking upgrading to a 3SGTE from a ST205 gt4. What I was wondering is will it fit straight in and bolt up to my st185 gbox. And also what would be better a Motor from a caldina or gt4

thanks

Yes will mount up and bolt straight in. Will require wiring tho.

ST205 motor would be the best choice out of the 2.

requires using some of the st185 engine mounts. not just a straight in and out.

use the ecu suited to the engine,
afm-map
tvis-non
big port-smallport
440cc-540cc
there are too many differences to make using the 185 ecu possible or good idea.

don't forget you have to use the st205 water to air intercooler or you get code54 error

you don't have to use the W2A. You can get around the code 54.

Well.

You can always use the 440's from your old engine on the new one and put he AFM back on, therefore the ECU thinks it's a ST185. You'll get some benefit of the better cam profiles from the ST205 engine, but your T-VIS will go all funny - because it's not there anymore.

Right now I'm doing exactly the same thing as you but on a MR2, but I have a PowerFC ECU and it's already running map, the lack of T-VIS and cam profiles alone is making revving the engine on moderate throttle all funny since the ECU is tuned for the old engine but with 540cc injectors already.

Good luck.
