battery relocating to the boot

Postby h8wrxs » Wed Nov 25, 2009 10:31 pm

ive got an evo 2 now, and i want to mount my battery in the boot to free up some space for new intercooler pipes and air filter etc...

is there any legal issues with mounting the battery to the boot, itll be in a contained battery box and securely mounted but surely it wont need to be certified will it?

and how much voltage drop is it likely to cause when starting the car because of the length of the cables?? im assuming that as long as i use a good branded battery this wont be an issue but i thought id ask anyways...

also do i still need to earth it to the engine or will it be enough to earth it to the body of the car in the boot...

sorry if this is a stupid question, i couldnt find the answers in the archives

If you dont want to use a battery box, buy a Dry cell battery.
AAP Imports Sell them for around $170 for 330CCA and $250 for a 430CCA.

when i moved my battery to the boot i gained in voltage!ha i went a bit overboard with the earthing tho with one in the boot, and a full 36mm cable back to the engine bay where is is earthed in as many places as i could find.

wasn't cheap for all that cable tho ended up costing me like $250 just in cable! 8O

the only legal issue that i have been told by my wof guy is that it needs to have brackets to hold it in place, not just the tie-down strop thingy. and the battery needs to be secure inside the battery box also. not sure bout this one tho as i haven't got round to it yet and still passes wof's ???
