N/A 7AGE

Postby xsspeed » Fri Dec 04, 2009 3:44 pm

Just wondering if anyone has any links to decent build threads for 20V 7AGE builds.

Everything I find relates to 7AGTE and I don't want to go down the turbo path.

Ideally trying to find if its the stock 7afe rods that limit the rpm a 7age can reach - evrything I have found points to some 'decent 7age' builds in melbourne (that supposedly rev to 10k) but have searched to no avail. No doubt the are on twincam.org or somesuch somewhere, but I can't seem to find them.

Any help appreciated

They all use custom rods & pistons and also change the rod/stroke ratios and piston to stroke ratio etc. Prob cost around $3k just for rods and pistons to get those setups right. Also the offset grind the cranks and actually some lower the cc's so the ratios are better for rev ability.
Basically you really need to do your homework and calculations. Prob not ideal for just a normal car unless your going to do some serious track racing, as all this will cost more to build than a turbo long block by far.

Just using the stock 7a stroke and piston ratio is not ideal but would still result in some decent HP. Though you would also want to work the head to get the most out of a N/A setup. Proper head work would net to around $5k+ I would say. That would be bigger valves, stronger springs, cams, major porting, cams, adjustable cam gears etc etc etc.

I would not use the 7a rods in n/a form as you want to rev it to get some decent power.

cheers bazda, got any links to these guys works?

As much as I would love to throw money at it for a full track car its just not going to happen, so keen to find out info more in line with keeping stock stroke.

I would eventually be getting top end done whether its as a 1600cc or 1800cc, ideally along the lines of Acesniper and BZRAGE's builds.

But also interested in the feasibility of building a similar spec'd engine, but using 7a block/crank, H-beam rods to suit 7age, and just the rest of the top end work being more or less what these other guys have done on here. (higher comp pistons, larger profile cams, adj cam gears etc)

There is no info on the net. Its just talking to the right people.

I would try just the 7a as it is with a BT head, with normal stroke etc.

I was planning to do that ages ago when I was thinking of getting an ae86. But the ae92 handles so well with the power its got so I decided not to change lol.

I'd be keen as to know what you end up with Steve. I've been considering it as an option once the 85 is road legal. Using a Redtop head though.

If anyone needs 7a h-beam rods, I can get good deals on the ones that are in my current engine.
Around $600 a set with ARP2000 rod bolts.

They are handling 340kw atw with no issues!

Reminds me I was meaning to ask you Bazda, do you know the weight per rod vs 7a rods - just out of interest?
