$682 for a speed sensor

Postby celica_xr9145 » Sat Dec 05, 2009 12:05 am

By the looks of it, my 4WS speed sensor (basically an ABS sensor) has given up so in need of a new one.

Havn't had much luck 2nd hand as they keep breaking once removed so went to Toyota and they quoted me exactly $682 8O

Is it just me or does this sound too expensive?

Was searching the forums and about 2 years ago one person bought one brand new from Japan for a little over $300 :?

Was my local Toyota and $600 for a clock 8O

When i was looking for a speed sensor ring, i asked our Toyota sponsor and even a whole drive shaft from Japan was almost half the price so might ask them for a price.

I don't think you can use 2nd hand ones as they break quite easily. Did ya ask Mark the Toyota sponser for a price for a sensor?

I read somewhere on the internet that you can get a speed sensor from another Toyota that fits also, sorry don't remember any details but will check it out

there's the link with "how to change the sensor"

"was quoted an initial price of $640NZ (£240) from the main dealer who went away and came back with a 'better' price of $325NZ (£125)"

" I came up with the 1992 Toyota Camry although further research shows the Camry sensor is also fitted to the Avalon, Solara and Lexus ES300! So, it looked physically similar...."[/img]

Thanks for that, have read that before so might look into doing that.

When i had to remove the first broken sensor, it must have been replaced recently because it was shiny and popped straight out so it depends on the age of the sensor i suppose :?

Haven't asked yet as i have no money spare but will look into more and start getting prices after christmas.
