i dont think ive eva seen it done b4 but ive done it, required a can of engine start, blow torch, 3 blocks, 2 ppl as weights, inner tube, and patience.....
And wouldn't that tyre on the video clip just de-bead as soon as you apply some decent pressure to a sidewall? There isn't exactly a lip on the mag to keep the beads on the rim.......
Shouldn't a drift car have enough power to burn up some decent sized rubber anyway??
I just don't get it Being raised around hot rods and drag racing makes me this way

cause thats how they do it in J-land y0!
i suspect it originally comes from wanting to have the car looking good, which means max attack on the offset and width of rims - but you dont want too much rubber. then the look caught on, and now its something in its own right!
tyre stretching didn't originate from Japan, the Germans have been doing it on the VWs long before the Japs did it. I think the reason the drifting guys do it is because it stiffens up the sidewalls a great deal.
Personally I like the stretched look, but it has to be pulled off well with decent tyres with nice looking sidewalls and a rim lip protector, as opposed to stretching a set of cheap tyres with bubble round sidewalls.
